very cool man

what do you use to make them shiny, do you clear coat them? how do you make it stick since it looks like they still have some dirt/gunk on (which is one of the things i like about the looks btw)

Rustolium (sp) clear in glossy. I like it over the matte finish.
I clean off everything with a wire wheel on the drill. The legs were pretty rusty. Then when it's all welded I hit it again with a wire wheel to knock the slag off since I use flux. (gas would be a big time saver). And I use a chisel and a flat blade screwdriver to knock as many welding berries off. Once all the work has been done I hose it down with brake cleaner. Then just shoot some paint on it.
I like the look of used beat up stuff. I would prefer that over brand new stuff. It's a bit more work since it needs to be cleaned first.

I forgot my camera yesterday, but I remembered this thread when I went to the Bilogical Diversity Park (INBio Park) here in San Jose, Costa Rica.  At the entrance, there are about 6 of this type of artwork depicting different bugs.  They were all rusted up, though, and I dont think they were as elaborate or cool looking as yours...

Just finished the Break Down Of The Month trophy for my Jeep club.





The U bolt spins, and the ball joint still swivels. I like my stuff to move if it can.

The gray blob is some JB weld that someone used to try and do a trail repair.  :lol:
