Topic: Light Bar?

What do you guys think of light bars?  Ihave had one in my garage for 2 years and I am thinking of putting it on fianlly.  It holds 5 lights and is the kind that bolts to the windshield hinges and wraps around the windshield and the lights are mounted on top.  If I put it on should I paint it black or match the color?  Do you like the look of them or are they lame?  I am not concerned with height problems or loss of whatever aerodynamics I have.

It really depends on where and if you wheel.  On the east coast, lights tend to get tangled on tree branches and such.  In desert areas, the high mount lights are more useful.  They look nice and can help you find your ride in a parking lot (if you're not running lots of lift).  They're good for looking at deer at night...  It's really a personal call.

The only time I'd run a light bar is for fast desert driving.  Otherwise, it's better to keep the lights low where they're more useful and not getting ripped off by branches, or scraped off by rock faces.

The only exception is if you have a roof rack.

I had one on my Jeep and let me tell yah...Talk about a small park bench on top of your jeep.

For the type of wheeling I got planned (in the tropical forests), it would not be useful.  In fact, now that I am installing the snorkel, I need to relocate my KC Daylighters from the windshield hinges to somewhere else because the snorkel for the YJ will not allow you to use both, so I decided to go for hood hinge mounts (which I know will probably get some glare back on my eyes) instead of the light rack because of the branches...  Not to mention the Jeep would not fit into the garage with the light rack!

Tell me about it! I'm saving some money to put an OME 2.5" suspension, with the roof rack I wouldn't fit anywhere. Everybody here keeps telling "hey. it´s a jeep it doesn't matter", but I still have to take my GF to the movies  .  So if the suspensions get's in, the rack get's off.

It sucks when I have to go downtown Indy when work sends me to training seminars also in either the truck or the jeep cause I have to find a parking garage with enough clearance to get in

I have the Olympic bar. Background ( 2inch lift 29 and 33 tires) My light bar flips up and down this helps because if they are up I can barely do 65 in fifth. with them down I can do eighty. Up 14mpg Down 16-17 mpg the loss in power is the same as switching from my street tires to mud tires. I can fit in garages with no problems, even if I have the 33's on because I could just flip them down. I drive along the coast down here i Texas and the wind off the beach is brutal. I'm actually thinking of selling the bar and getting a bumper. My bar holds four on top and two next to window hinges. They do suck when the ones on top are on because they light up your hood and kinda ruin your night vision. You can still see fine though it just lights up the hood. So I suggest looking to whether you go into garages or a lot of highway miles. When at the beach or hunting lease I use mine a lot. Its all a personal preference.

Mine came with a light bar already on it.  I like the look of it,  but it is not really that functional on or off-road.  It has saved my ass a few times when deer get too close to the road.  It does get hit by branches off road and I don't really care...they are not $100 KC's or anything.  If I go ahead with a suspension lift, and a snorkel it is coming off...I wouldn't mind a Trail rack and putting some lights on that.  I guess it would really only matter if you were planning on river fording at night.  Having lights above the hood line might help you see were your going at night.
