Lesson Learned... the hard way....
« on: June 03, 2009, 06:42:32 AM »
So my jeep got broken into again last night... They took my old set of stereo speakers I had wired to the sound bar wires... and thats it... and they ripped the channel off my tonno cover in the process....

The lesson?

I have an alarm that is a little too sensitve, so I stopped using it.... No more. That baby will be armed every night....

The kicker: I heard a door shut last night when I was on the phone with the GF *2 am my time, 10 her time* and I was like... Hmm.. it would suck if my jeep got broken into....

If the alarm was set... it would have went off and stopped the assholes from rummaging through my stuff....

On a positive note: My smittybuilt steel glovebox held up the them prying on it.. my radio faceplate and garage opener is still in there....

The lesson I would have learned is that you should leave the stock stereo equipment in a jeep.

What fun is that?  For me, half the fun of the jeep is riding along with some good tunes that can overcome the wind noise...  But that's just me (the guy who bought a hard-top to protect his stereo!)

Thieving Bastards!  That said I too don't understand putting $ into a car stereo (definately a Jeep).

I have a pretty basic 3 speaker setup.  It's decent but still relatively inexpensive and sounds decent enough for being in a rattling can.  My headunit is an Alpine from '94 so I doubt anyone wants it.  I just use it to connect my iPod to it.

The #1 thing to do to keep people form steeling stuff is to not have anything out in the open.  If there is nothing there then no one will steel it.  #2 park next to someone else who's got more expensive stuff.

Well in a turn of events, I went outside to check the mail, and my dad was outside talking to the neighbor. He calls me over, and hes got my speaker and my red bag in his hands.. Turns out they dumped my stuff in his truck....

So..

I wired them back up, but my hard top back on, locked her up, and then set the alarm...

Makes you wonder why the hell they took your stuff in the first place  guess they decided they found something better?

I know what you mean about hearing the door shut... Like 5 or 6 years ago my dad had $2,000+ worth of tools jacked from his work truck. At like 4 AM he heard what he said sounded like the dog dragging something across an old VW hood we had in our backyard, so he thought nothing of it. Couple hrs later when he was leaving for work, he noticed his tailgate was down... And almost everything was taken from the back of his rig. Had to of been someone that knew the stuff was there...

I'd like to get an alarm for my rig though... One w/ those proximity sensors. Most of my stereo stuff is hidden, my amps are anyway. I usually have my dog with me when I'm driving around topless, and although he wouldn't harm anyone it's still enough to keep people from looking around my rig I figure.
