Driver side door not closing properly
« on: June 23, 2009, 09:06:54 AM »
OK, so my driver side door is acting up; it seems like it is lined up, but sometimes, I have to slam it about  or 6 times before it actually closes.  Then it will work fine for a while, and then it will start again.  Has anyone had this problem before?  I want some ideas before I start tearing down the door this weekend...

I would start off looking at the catch.  The door migth have sagged a little over time so it's not catching 100%.  Beware that loosening the door hinges will expose bare metal since the doors are painted with the hinges on them.

The latch on there may just need to be greased, i've had a few doors and tailgates do that to me where the latch just gets stuck open and wont move

I think I'll just start by taking the door off and taking the cover off and clean and grease the mechanism...  If it continues, then I'll look at the warping possibility (start with the easy one, basically).  Thanks for the advise!

had the same prob at some point, the door should lock in place just by pushing it, you should hear 2 clicks (if it's only 1 click then your bolt is too far in or your door is not lined up with the body) - took some adjusting of the hinges and bolt and the top hinge (the part on the body) had to be bent outwards (i think there are shims you can add there but my bolts would not come off). And like the other guys said grease and beware of the paint when adjusting hinges

EDIT: and i would also check the latch with the door open to make sure it catches properly (might be that needs to be replaced)
