Which rockers to buy
« on: June 23, 2009, 04:31:52 PM »
So, I was looking at the 4WD, 4WheelParts, Quadratec, etc. catalogues for some rocker protection, and I really liked the Poisone Spyder Ricochet Rockers, but of course, Poison Spyder is out of business, so these are IMPOSSIBLE to find (especially for a YJ).  So I was wondering what you guys would recommend for rocker protection that can also be used as a step...  I will have them lined, so the finish is not important to me.

Poison spider is back in business in California, I would look at the genright ones also
I actually manage to bend one of my poison spider ones and the tubing on them seems to dent fairly easy, or rather easier than I would like

Homebrew.  :thumb:

Regardless of the brand I would suggest the type that sits just under the tub. Works great as a step and mounts to the frame. Mine are 2x4" 1/4" wall.

I really like my 4X4 Dr. rocker pannels.  http://www.fourxdoctor.com/catalog/rockerguards/rockerguards.html
X2 for the 4X4 Dr ones. I have a handful of friends that run them on their TJ's and a couple YJ/CJ guys and they look great.

But I also agree with JJ, homebrew would be nice as well  ;)

I have no welding equipment, so homebrew will be difficult...

If you don't do steps, it won't require welding.  Just cut off wheels and a grinder.  You can laos have a fabrication shop make what you want.  Might even be cheaper.

Neither did I at the time. Combined effort between my garage and my buddy's shop. Got exactly what I wanted and it was less than $200 including the steel and grip tape.  :thumb:

Why not JCR again??

I love mine...welded on to the frame since it was at their shop, but they make them bolt-on as well.

I like theirs, but I am worried that they will have to fabricate them, and I dont have that much time left (I have to ship the Jeep in August).

By the way, which type of rockers are better; the ones that bolt to the rocker itself, or the ones that bolt to the frame?  I like the rugged look of the ones that tie on to the tub/body mounts, but it seems that the ones that go to the frame may be stronger (at the cost of some height, but for me that's OK).

I have OR Fab ones and really like them.
They bolt to the frame and have a smaller tube that comes up to protect the tub. They have been tested a few times.  ::)
