I'm talking more about a rusty/crappy looking undercarriage more than anything

I absolutely DESPISE it  :rant:

I'm fortunate that my tub is 100% rust free (at least I hope it is, I've never spotted any anywhere.....) but a rusty, even just a dirty undercarriage bugs the living hell out of me. Granted I'm an automotive detailer I'm probably a bit more picky than most individuals, but I just can't stand seeing the underside of my Jeep looking like hell. I get crap from friends all the time, they tell me even when my rig is clean I still think it's filthy (I'll admit, I do  :whistle:)

With my 9" swap I've been going through painting EVERYTHING. I've spent well over $75 on paint and brake cleaner to get it all cleaned up. Everything has been getting painted... Leafs, u-bolts, u-bolt plates, all 4 sides of the frame wherever I can hit it, bumpers, cross members, flares, I finished painting the front axle yesterday, and the rear will get painted after I'm done welding everything on for the swap. I've even gone as far as putting new hardware in some areas, and simply hitting old bolt heads and nuts with a wire wheel to make them look new-ish.

Like I said, I'm picky  :smokes:

I hate rust but its pretty much a fact of life in Ohio.

after driving my jeep in the winter 1 time the then new leafs started rusting... my driver side floorboard is gone and the connection between the fenders and the tub has decided to rust along with the jeep logo area... worst part is that it had a leaky windshield so the dash is all rusty and the gauges now have crappy connections...  :rant: :rant: I hate rust. the more rusty my vehicles get the more depressing it is when i wash and wax them. (my dd has some survier Minnesota cancer.)

Used to live in Hawaii.  There is no way to get away from salt.  Rained every night with blazing sun during the day.  Chrome and powder coating would rust.

Rust = parted out Jeeps = cheap parts.

I love rust, just not on my rigs.  :twofingers:

Never thought about it that way!  :popcorn:

I feel bad for those of you who have to deal with rust... It must be a PITA. When I was living in Tahoe I was only there for a few snow storms, and I honestly couldn't believe how fast it made my undercarriage rust, at least the areas with the paint worn off.

I hate it too.  I'm in Monterrey, Mexico and Jeeps don't rust much here but it turns out mine is originally from Ohio and Pennsylvania so it has some rust.  I had the driver's floorboard replaced and I had a hell of time taking out the front axles to replace u-joints.  However, as time goes by there are fewer and fewer rusted parts and bolts on it so it is easier to work on now.

My YJ was garaged and not a daily driver until I bought her, so there was only minor rust around the hood latches. I took them off and sanded the rust away and used some touch up paint. Its not noticable at all. I hate the winters in Ohio. I lived in TX for a while and it was great. 320+ days of sunshine a year? You can't beat that.
