Who has good prices on RE 4" springs?
« on: July 04, 2009, 09:50:31 PM »
&$#! these Rough Country leafs...

So I got my 9" all bolted in, was stoked to get my rig on the ground... And after I did, I realized my rear leafs, which are about 6 month old warranty replacements from Rough Country, have sagged MUCH more than I thought... I haven't even wheeled with these leafs yet. They've got my 3K miles on them tops.

So Monday I'm saying $%^& it and ordering some Rubicon Express 4" Standard leafs. Don't tell me to get the 4" Extreme Duty leafs, I'm trying to save a few bucks and I know the 4" standard springs have got to be better than the 4" RC's... I hope I don't come off as smug, I'm just pissed about these stupid Rough Country leafs. And I want to get them NOW, because if I don't then all the work I'm going to put into getting my pinion angle right and welding the perches on the 9" will just be pointless...

Quadratec has them for $100/ea plus shipping. I don't know where else to look off hand. I might just pay a few extra bones and get them through the 4WP here in town so it only takes a couple days to get them. I also called a detailing client of mine to see what his prices would be, I won't know till Monday morning though.

I should get some pics in the morning of how much they've sagged in 6 months or less... It's sad...

Get the 4.5 XD's the standard ones are junk  :stick: :pot:  I know, I know  :stfu: I think the standard ones a rebadged pro-comps. See how much the BDS are, at least they have a life time warranty.

I thought I had rear somewhere that RE doesn't use Pro Comp springs anymore for the 4" standard springs?

For the price of the RE XD springs, I might as well look into BDS. Definitely cheaper. I've always thought about trying the BDS 5" leafs, so I guess I've got a couple options to think about... I've heard that the BDS 3.5" springs net you around 4+" lift too. Considering my front leafs have sagged some as well, I guess that would be another option. And they're only $10 more than the RE's...

BDS evidently has free shipping when you ship to a local distributor... Closest one is about an hour away, so maybe I can talk someone into hooking it up with a ride to go get them. So it looks like I might just scratch the RE spring idea...

So after saying all this...

I ordered the 4.5" XD springs

$137.99/ea at 4 Wheel Parts here in town, and they'll even be in tomorrow. And I even scored a detail job from the guy that helped me order them, so that pays for half right there!  I'll see how she sits with the RC springs up front, but I'll probably order the front XD's in a matter of a couple weeks

Bye Bye Rough Country!!!

Everyone says the RE 4" standard leafs are/were from Pro Comp Exploror but that's not entirely true.  They are/were mass produced leafs from McKoy Brothers, IIRC.  They are a big produced of springs for a few different suspension companies.  Pro-Comp and RE are just two.  I recently found that they have their own website now, http://www.mccoybrosusa.com/

I think you did ood by getting the RE 4.5" XD's.  They are one of the best over the counder springs you can buy.  I'd sell off your old leafs to someone who's looking for a little lift.  The problem with inexpensive leafs is that they cust cost somewhere and that usually means one of two things.  They are either going to be stiff or sag prematurely so, paying more for better quality leafs are well worth it.

You don't really hear much about BSD out west.  Seems more of a mid-west thing.

I figured I'd post the old ones up on CL and maybe JF for locals who can pick them up and just sell them off cheap. If they can find a sagging set of front leafs then can get a 2.5-3" lift for pretty cheap

The one thing that made me consider BDS springs was the no b.s, no questions asked lifetime warranty. The 3.5's were around $79/ea I believe? Re standards were $89. but like I said, when he gave me the price for the XD springs I couldn't say no. I've got to head out to the doctor around 9 (I think I've got tonsillitus ) after that they should be ready for me to pick up!  :smokes:

I picked them up this afternoon. They make the RC springs look PATHETIC! I placed them upside down on level ground, and they sit a hair over 1" taller than the RC springs  They're a 6 leaf pack too, which I didn't realize. Should work good for the light towing I do.

Also dropped my axle shafts off today to have the hub (flange?) milled down to fit inside the rotor hat. Only costing me $50, and they'll hopefully be ready tomorrow. Which means I should have everything welded up by Friday evening!  :bandit:

Good choice.  I´ve been running 4" XDs for about two years with no complaints.  With 5" shackles (this gives the other 0.5 inch), 33" tires hit the back of the fenders, so they do flex pretty easily.  Even with a hard top, they gave me about 5.25 inches of lift but this may be because the baseline was sagging stock springs.
