Carbureted 4 Banger
« on: August 19, 2009, 05:27:49 PM »
I got a professional carter YFA 1bbl and put it on my xj 4banger. now it won't idle down below 3k and the throttle sticks when floored. scary as H!@# and I also blew off the cat converter then the muffler shutting it down and back own to get down a mountain to a safe stop point. now it idles to fast sticks and is LOUD. I was thinking of the webber 32/36 option and would like to have any info or comment. my 85 xj looks like the throttle body bolts down with 2 bolts and the pics I can see of the webber look like it has 4 bolts so I am hesitant to spend the $350. anybody know what's up with this?

I think it was jeff in a different thread that advised converting it over to a MPFI. Any info on doing that and where to get the parts would be appreciated.

Off a late model 2.5L.  Probably better to get the whole engine since they are relatively inexpensive and come complete.  You would need to convert a bunch of stuff from later model XJ.  Might be easier to buy a rusted late model and swap everything over, then you'll besure to have everything necessary.

Any AMC 2.5L will bolt up but I would look for a 1991-1995 that is OBD I as OBD II requires more stuff.  If you get a whole XJ then it's not a problem if it's OBD II.
