water leak

i have a 95 wrangler and i have a water leak every time it rains. when im driving it seems to come at the left front speaker then it runs out of the dash when i corner, you know when i turn right it runs out of the left side, Ive tried running a hose in the vent around the wind sheild and around the top of the wind shield around the top. cant find the leak. are there problem spots to check thanks

It's probably the cowl seal.  Since it's 14 years old, it's probably dry.

I replaced all the seals on mine, and it STILL leaks when there's heavy rain (its OK for most rainfalls, though).

I would guess the hard seam between the cowl and the hood.  I've had mine leak there as well.

I used silicone to seal the seam, but the water is still finding a way in (only when there is a torrential rain; most of the time it's OK).

Take a hose with an open end. Turn the water on for a stream. Lay it across the cowl vent and look for the leaks. Pop the hood and make sure the drain is draining for the vent cavity. Let it set for several minutes. Once you are satisfied that is not the location for the leak, then relocate the hose to other lower locations - along the cowl, the lower side of the windshield, each time raise it above where you previously had it. Don't forget to put it lastly on the roof above the doors.

I have the same problem except it is the passenger side right below the glove box. I can never recreate it.  Removed the cowl for the second time this past weekend and drenched it...cowl drain is working fine.

Must be the windshield or door/windshield are and working its way down.

i had a problem with the cowl vent before, so i just unclogged it, but i still have my jeep "pee" on me from both sides of the dash right where the dash bolts to the firewall. The water right on that seem where the dash is mounted to the speaker grill. But only when it rains super hard. I think its just aa jeep thing. Will probably buy some of that indoor/outdoor carpet for the interior due to this.

Well, mine still leaks at the cowl seal.  Water pools on the unsealed gap at the ends of the cowl, under the windshield frame and then leaks down the sides.  I still haven't bothered to fix it but at least I tracked it down.  When it rains really hard, it will leak inside.

How would you go about fixing that??? Sounds like my problem and the jeep marking its territory all over my shoes really gets annoying. Also i cant put nice carpet in with a water leak

Well, a new cowl seal should stop it.  If not then add some stick-on weatherstripped under there.  When the cowl seal gets old it acts like a sponge.

I have two streams at the top of the windshield about 10" in from each side (passenger and driver). I believe the seal is not seated completely. So water makes its way down my windshield (on the inside) behind the dash and puddles a nice one on the passenger floorboard. Luckily I put down some Rhino mats and its easy to sop up and doesnt make it smell like my dog after a rainy day outside. Just going to call a local windshield place and see how much they charge to pull it out and put it back in. I have only done one windshield in my life and it was on a VW. Plus its been about 20 years. So I might be a bit rusty. If this works, I will repost.

It wasn't smelly since there was no carpet but it was like going into a cold sauna.  It was very humid.  Water was dripping from every where behind the dash...  All of my gauges fogged up.  I think I might just put duct tape over the seal and deal with it another day unless I get really adventurous and buy a new seal.  That means loosening the top and dropping the windshield.  ie. PITA.

I ended up biting the bullet so to speak and buying a new seal from Qtech.  I also have a Flex-a-lite fan controller coming as well.  I went cheap as I don't really have the $150 to spend on the DCC.

Well, I fixed my leak- sorta.  I quit wearing shoes when it rains, and now wear rubber knee boots.  Problem solved...




Sorry, just had to be a smart---.  It may be that the windshield gasket is not sealing in some areas allowing water to run in the frame and out the end.  If so, this should be corrected as the frame will rust thru.  Or the cowl seal may be working open again- dig out as much as you can, clean, and reseal with silicon sealant.

BTW- My ol' heap still pees a bunch on me about three/four times a year- right on my feet!  It just won't give me any respect!
