Warming up the Jeep

Do you let your Jeep warm up before heading out?

I do for a bit. I don't drive it much so I like the oil to warm up some before going. It does not get real cold here in the winter so it don't take long.

i usually let it idle for a minute or two but i am in a hurry most of the time  :lol:. Synthetic oil helps from what i know in cold temps for that purpose. when it's cold-cold i don't like the freezing seat so i usually start it and head back in finishing my coffee, but I read somewhere it is not recommended to get it to temp like that, but something's gotta give so in that case has to do more with me and not with the oil being cold.

depends on the weather in the summer ill just keep it below 2.5grand (most vehicles i would do 2grand but the jeep is lacking power lol.)until it warms up and drive it right away.. if its realy cold ill let it warm up for a while otherwise i just take it easy for a few miles.

Maybe for a minute or so.  Really, it's so the heater and/or defroster starts working.  In the morning I'll start the engine while I get situated in the seat.  I can turn my fan off but really the engine won't get up to the operating temps till I'm several miles out.  The heater starts blowing warmth in 1/2 mile or less.  I run synthetic and it doesn't get below freezing much.  It's usually in the low 40's to mid 50's right now.

No warm up.  I just drive it slowly until it warms up.

It just depends on how cold it is out, on mornings that its under 30 and more so on the mornings that its under 0 or close to it, i will start it as soon as i wake up and then go get ready that way its somewhat warm by the time i leave

I usually let it warm up for a few minutes while I get ready to go out. Especially while at work when its covered in snow, I usually let it warm up while im scraping all the ice off the windshield.

When it turns cold I start using my block heater. When I am on my 4 days off I can still be paged in at any time and want my engine warm so I can respond quickly.

I usually don't wait for a warm-up. Just get in and go. I do tend to drive a little easier until the coolant gets up to temp.

general rule of thumb, let it idle for 15 to 30 seconds to circulate the oil through the motor then drive sensibly until the motor is up to temp.  the reason for not letting it idle longer than about 2 minutes is due to blow by, which is when the oil is seeping around the rings on the piston.  the only motors I let idle for long periods are diesels but I would rather have it tached up to about 1200 rpm.  gas engines especailly are not good to allow much idle time.

Fire it up and go until it's below freezing. Then I send the kid out to start it 10 min or so before I leave, remote start for cheap ass parents.  :lol:

That's prolly why I have a gassy smell when I change the oil. (from the oil...not me) :lol: Airing up the tires takes about 15-20 minutes. Maybe I'll kick the idle up with the hand throttle when I air up.

short trips in cold weather add to that as well (oil smelling like gas) - mainly b/c is not up to temp.

Most YJ's run really fat at idle, not a good idea to let them idle cold, I start it up and back it out and drive just off idle out to the main highway.
