door hinges

Gotta keep the cost down , so i am going to experiment with some homemade 1/2 doors. Any ideas where to get some hinges on the cheap?

The cheapest would be the ones on your Jeep right now, just transfer them over.  Other than that, junkyard.

thought about that initially but i was weary about unbolting them off then on again. My Jeep has been repainted and it looks like it might damage it if I did that. However i did find some on ebay. we will see how it goes in 2 days 12 hours...

Well, the doors were painted with the hinges on, even stock.  I wouldn't screw with them, unless you're not going to be reusing the doors.  It's a bit of a PITA to get the doors aligned again.  I wouldn't remove the body hinge either.  If you're making custom doors and can weld then you can make your own hinge with a long bolt.

are you making these doors out of aluminum or will they be tube doors? will they have a frame?

a long bolt that you bend at 90degree is a good start - then weld it to a 3/16'' plate 1/2'' wide parallel to the long side of the bolt - drill couple of holes in the plate and your homemade door and put a couple of screws in it. you can also get some 5/16'' bar and bend it in a u shape and if your doors will be tube ones weld one side to the front vertical tube on the door - use a die to create the thread at the end so you can throw a nut on there to avoid the door coming off.

 I think wood is the answer. I will only use them in the summer, and we get 10 inches of rain a year. I will take pics and keep updated. Be a good winter project!

Might still have an extra set laying around.  If not, replacement hinges can be had for $25 a set on ebay most of the time.
