YJ Zerks
« on: November 22, 2009, 03:19:21 AM »
Putting on the quicker disconnects a couple of months ago, I noticed they had zerks.  I haven't as yet greased those.

Also, I've had my my YJ since '99 and I've, frankly, never greased any of the zerks anywhere on the steering or drive train.  My U-Joints are stock and apparently sealed.

For any of you guys with a late model YJ, where should I be looking for zerks to grease on the steering and drivetrain?  Thanks

hmmmmmm  :puzzled:, the only one i remember off the stock driveshafts is at the front one on the splines. i don't recall any of the stock u-joints being greasable but i remember that one u-joint in the front was making noise but the rear was still great - i think the front one is prone to that since is not moving at all due to the axle disconnect.

I think the upper ball-joints have grease zerks (but the bottoms don't (or its the other way around), and tie rod ends, unless you have any greaseable u-joints...

In case of my YJ, the zerks I remember are: U-Joints (aftermarket), shackle bolts (aftermarket), the two shafts (both are aftermarket; rear one is CV shaft) and the 3 in the steering.

There are 10 zerks on a YJ. three on the steering arms, two on the upper ball joints, one on each of the driveshaft U-joints and one for the slip-joint on the front driveshaft.  The axles do not have zerks.

:roflol: would not be surprise if this changed based on the hour your YJ was built....

Mine has no driveline u-joint zerks, no steering zerks, just ball joints and the front drive line slip joint.

Mine's a '94 also like dwtaylorpdx's so I wouldn't be surprised if that's the zerk arrangement I'm looking at. Frankly, it sounds like what I've seen when I've looked underneath in the past.

I got around to greasing the steering, the quicker disconnects and the top ball joints.  The bottom ball joints don't have zerks, but some kind of nut/clip deal.  I was expecting to see zerks on the lower ball joints, so you guys know what the deal with that?  You have to pull all that off and fit zerks?   :puzzled:
