Check your hangers

Seems this happened before he hit the dirt.  Looks like there was a crack that was left unchecked and it broke the rest of the hanger off.  Luckily he's got a tube bumper which caught the shackle.

Been there, broke mine at the Badlands a few years ago. Luckily the shop on site was available and welded it up for me.

mine didn't break the whole way but it ripped off one side (not the weld) - driver's side. got some reinforcements welded there. those shackle mounts up front seem to be a weak spot on the YJ frame.
