89wrangler won't stay running mechanics baffled

MY girlfriends got an 89 wrangler with the 2.5L throttlebody injection (mines a 93) and hers is stalling out right after starting...It starts everytime but then dies...I tried a new fuel filter, dry gas, then took it to my mechanic and he tested the fuel pump and troublshooted it down to the injector kicking off because when it dies there is still spark and somtimes if you pump it for a while while its running it will keep running but constintly stalls when you try to drive it ...almost forgot he said he changed a module that could have had something to do with the issue and also the regulator on the throttle body...he's thinking maybe a faulty injector or computer but asked me to check around and see if anyone else has had similiar issues with this motor....I guess my next step would be to try and locate a throttlebody and computer. Any help would be apprietiated..thanks :(

Does it stay running if you modulate the throttle?

I forget if the pre-90's store error codes.  If it does, you might see if you can recover them.  A tuess would be the throttle position sensor if modulating the throttle works.

sometimes....it does help but it still stalls about 3/4 of the time it still stalls...it only seems to help if I pump kinda slow pumping all the way. that sensor was actaully the first thing replaced by a different mechanic...he gave up too.

Did they test to see how much fuel pressure was available?

you might also ask if the checked volume. I know some mechanics around here look at the pressure but neglect volume. My cherokee had plenty of pressure but no volume at speed and then at less speed, and then going up hill, and then slower granted it took about 6 weeks to find it.

  they did check the pressure but not volume....How could it have one without the other? just wondering.

Sounds a like what was happening to my XJ and it turned out to be the crank position sensor on the bellhousing, I believe the connection had come loose.  It is worth a shot.

Don't ask me. I just know It wasn't putting out the volume required.  The Haynes of chilton XJ manual has you check pressure then volume.

When you or your mechanics changed the fuel filter did anybody notice if it seemed full. This seemed to be the big clue on mine.

I dropped it and yes it seemed full but I'll piont it out.

Fuel regulator could have a pin hole in it. You turn the jeep on. the fuel pump primes and you have initial presure. Start it and the reguator does not hold vavuum and no more go juice enters.

if thats the same fuel regulator as the one on the throttle body it was one of the first things changed and adjusted by mechanic #1 he kept insisting thats what it was and after it didn't fix it he pretty much said he could'nt figure it out.
