backwards serpentine belt tensioner
« on: January 05, 2010, 10:27:49 PM »
I did some pretty extensive searching today to try and loosen my serpentine belt enough to replace the left hand idler pulley on my '95 yj 2.5. I went to the Haynes manual and went to steering pump removal. pretty straight forward. Went to no less then 5 websites, and they all said about the same thing.
I pop the hood, tools in hand, and wouldn't you know it my s%#t is different!!  How could Jeep mess this up?? The bolt that turns the adjuster is not below the ps pump on the right, but on the top by the thermostat housing. None of the bolt patterns from the manuals or the forums even closly resemble this. I will take some pics tomorrow and see what gives and if anyone "recognizes"...

You must have a 1995.5 YJ which has the TJ style tensioner.

i have a '95 and it is under the p/s pump. btw, unless you have A/C you don't need to loosen the belt to replace the idler pulley, and in my case (w/o A/C) it's only one - do you have 2 idler pulleys?

You must have a 1995.5 YJ which has the TJ style tensioner.

probably that's the case - since he mentioned he needs to release the belt to replace the idler that's most likely it.
