Topic: questions about Alternators that the FAQ section doesn't answer

Does anyone know if there is a 136 amp (and up) alternator (off of another vehicle in a junkyard)that is a direct swap(no modifications required) into my '91 jeep 2.5L? Reason being is that I would rather buy an alternator from a local used parts place where i know tests the alternator to make sure it is good before they sell it to the public, and I am getting tired of hearing my alternator strain ning to keep up with my all my electronic stuff going.

The FAQ topic I quoted below only says some modifications required, but doesn't say how to modify, etc or if its neccessary for every alternator under every amp size. I am hoping someone can clarify this for me. I am assuming that modification is required for any alternator size with a * by it. Am I understanding this right.

From what I understand, there is one that is a direct bolt-on. IIRC it's from the Dodge Dakota. I can't remember which years though, I was never really clear on that.

But otherwise, yeah, I'd like to know too.

because its off is the same jeep brand and is relatively on the newer side atleast.
Is this alternator just a pure bolt on and plug in type of deal for a 1991 jeep wrangler 2.5 L?

i'm not 100% but i think that's the one i have - you only need to move the plastic protection on the 12v output as it points the other way (you might get away w/o doing that) - it is keyed (has a little nipple on the alternator case side) so you can use the one off the stock alt, i broke mine when i took it off so i clipped off the nipple with a pliers and that let me turn it around. other than that it's bolt on (again i think that's the one i have but not 100% - it's a 136amp off a GC and seems that is the only one there and the p/n sounds familiar).

When they say 'practically' a bolt on, it's that simple.  You don't have to cut or change any wires.  All you have to do is reclock a plastic boot on the back where the pos cable attaches, and move a bushing within a mounting hole.  The bushing taps easily enough to move.  You may also have to swap from the 7-groove pulley to your 6-groove, depending on what application you source your new alt from.  It's all a simple bolt-in.
