anyone ever tried this intake mod? http://www.quadratec.com/products/17014_100.htm

 looks pretty simple and effective to me

why not just use a $5 tube to feed the airbox from under the headlight and a $10 Fram (it's called air hog or something like that) hi-flow filter?

It looks like a milled aluminum cone that's stuck into the OE box opening?

looks like it but i think there's also a screen that goes on the firewall to grill rod and is meant to separate the airbox from the engine but it doesn't look like is going all the way to the hood.

Honestly speaking, I doubt that will flow more air than my snorkel with the Airhog filter...  It kind of looks like my stock airbox when I removed the restrictor and used a high flow filter.  And yes, there DOE seem to be a screen (and it is mentioned in the text), but I am not sure how efficient it is at blocking the heat from the engine, as it seems a bit low and hot air rises...

I think it would be better to just take a 2" piece of ABS and the tube and route the air into the stock box.  2" isn't as big but you'll be able to route it easier.

there's a flex hose with a metal spiral in that you can get in 2.5 and 3 inches diameter, it's black - that's what i would probably use. there's also the HVAC aluminum flex hose but i don't think it comes in 3'' or i haven't seen one.

I've seen 2.5" rubberized flex hose which is what I'd really like to use.  Haven't seen it recently though.  if you could figure out a new drain you could even connect it to the cowl vent.

Large flexible hose is available from race shops,
its about 5 bucks or more a foot depending onsize....
Ask for Silicone brake duct hose...
