would you do it?

I pulled my front axle shafts tonight in the YJ to replace the front you-joints, but my question is once I got them out, the joints seem pretty solid like there isn't any play in them when I wiggle them around. Would you replace them for the fact that they have been on there since 95 probbly or just leave them until they do actually go bad? And if I do leave them I haven't pulled them for nothng because I'm putting in those fancy outter seal deals...

I agree, you already have the shafts out.  Might as well do them now then have to pull them apart again later.  Just be sure to use quality U-joints when you replace them.

Like they said peace of mind, I don't trailer my Jeep and to be 3 hours away from home and something be broken would bring the suck..

hey man mine doesnt ride the trailor too often either and the nearest trail to me is just shy of three hours too,  get a AAA gold member ship,  its like trail insurance

I have Geico and they offer a road side service program and it was an extra $4 every 6 months I think so I signed up for it since mine has left me stranded on the side of the road a half dozen times

Ya, compaines should offer a program called "I drive a YJ" heh  Mine's only left me stranded once and that was when it was having clutch issues and I was able to play with things to get me home so I guess it didn't really leave me stranded :confused:

Mine has left me stranded 3 times, but each was in a different country, so I guess it's better than most!

First, the fuel rail tore (was leaking fuel RIGHT on top of the intake and exhaust manifold, so it was NOT a good idea to keep on driving it!) and this was in Miami.  Then, a tire came off while driving in Panama (we suspect the thieves who broke into my parent's house treid to steel the 2 driver's side tires, but were unable to lift the Jeep to take them out).  Now, in Costa Rica, the rod that connects the brake pedal to the brake booster broke.

Since no damages happened on any of the 3 times the problems arose, I figure I am ahead of the curve, as any one of them could have ended up badly!

I was left stranded once.  That was when my clutch slave went out and I was unable to shift from a stop.  Had to get it towed to work where I was able to fill it up with fluid and get it home.  The only other time was when the clutch master went out, I was still able to drive it home though.  A friend had to bump me when I was in town since I couldn't' shift unless it was rolling slightly.  I was able to drive it off the trail and 20 miles back home though.

I try to keep up on the maintenance stuff so I won't get stranded anywhere.

I had some overheating problems for a while and just slowly replaced the whole cooling system till I found out the radiator was clogged somewhere, and then I have broken a few rear ujoints, i really need to get a sye to get rid of the driveline vibes
