Spark plug install

Believe it or not, I've never had to do this before on the Jeep (the used car dealer I bought it from did the last tune up 4 years ago). I remember them sayin how hard it was to change the first plug.

Any advice on how to get in there??

Tried searching, but too many "spark plug" threads come up.
2009 Audi S5....what....its 4wd...sort of....

ive done it. its easy. just make sure you do them one at a time

it's pretty straight forward. Start with the most forward plug, change it out.(Make sure it's properly gapped .035 is stock gap)
Just pull the plug wire by the boot if you can reach the boot. Wiggle it back and forth while pulling. Take the spark plug out. Install the new one. They don't need a ton of TQ. Just make sure it's snug.

**Don't pull all the plug wires at once. It's easy to mix up where they go**

I started at the back already....have the distributor marked. 1 is passenger front, 2 is driver front, 3 is passenger rear and 4 is driver rear with power in center.

Put a little silicone around distributor seam to seal it.

It just looks as though front plug (#1) may nit be easy to remove/install due to parts in the way.

Front or back it don't matter where you start. Just do one plug at a time. Sometimes there is stuff in the way that needs to be removed to access the plugs.

like the ac compressor sitting right in front of #1.....grrrrrr

plugs were up to more than .5 gap. Running new ones at .35-.40.

I bought a real spark plug wire pliers and a T-handle wobble spark plug wrench it rocks for getting that freaking front plug out!

Was easier than I thought...just undid the four top bolts holding the ac compressor on top of the alternator.  Moved it slightly to the side (away from the engine) giving me more than enough room to replace number 1 and route the wires for both 1 & 2.

Now just replacing the belt.....if I had a few more hours to screw around, I would have attempted the e-fan today as well, but that will take me a day next weekend as I still need to figure out placement for the coolant and power steering bottles once the shroud is gone.  :thumbsup:

Even with an extension it would be a pita. Removing the compressor really seems like the only way to do it properly. Either way, it was easy once I figured out that it could come off easily without loosening the alternator.

It should be the same setup.  Just got to be creative with extensions and Universals.

...and since I was all worked up from getting to spend an afternoon on the rig, I may have figured out the cause of my jumpy speedo.

Disconnected the sensor and no jumping, so the problem is likely there and not some sort of short or interference further down the line.  Decided to check on JB Conversions website about which sensor is used as I can't seem to find the same one on-line (some Honeywell OEM Chrysler sensor)....and they have a big note in their install instructions about tightening the super short nut to 200 lbs. torque.  If not, it may cause erratic speedo.

If that's not it, then I guess it is a bad sensor....easy enough to replace, but I would rather it be the free fix....we'll see.... :thumbsup:
