Flickering headlights
« on: April 27, 2010, 07:00:42 AM »
My headlights on my 98 TJ will turn off or flicker every now and then at random. It does it even on perfectly smooth roads and sometimes when i hit my blinker they just turn off. They turn right back on when i hit my brights real quick. Anyone got any suggestions? :beers:

I would reseat the light harness on the steering column first.  IIRC, you can follow the rod from the indicator down to a box which controls the lights, and blinkers.  There should be a plug on the back side.  This sometimes works it's way loose.

Mine lights had a very similar issue.  On closure inspection, I had water in a head light bulb.  Everytime the water would slosh just right or I hit the right angle, I would be blacked out for a few to a lot of seconds.  Wouldn't hurt to look at the headlights too.

Also check the connector to the lamps themselves; mine was kind of melted and it would wiggle just enough for it not to work 100%.  A set of new connectors from Advanced Autoparts (under $5) and the problem was fixed.
