You in Hawaii? Where'd you go Maui Offroad? If you had a 4.0L then 4.56's would be OK but not with a 2.5L. You can go with 4.56's but it's really too high. If you're driving on road all the time then it won't matter as much but if you're going through passes like Likelike Hwy or even the hill heading past Aloha Stadium to Pearlridge, it's gonna suck. Even the slope from H1 to Millilani sucks as it's all open to wind and it's a LONG steep hill.
If you're running a manual then there is no reason not to go with 4.88's. Although, I'd highly consider swapping axles to get even lower gearing. If you're still open diffs then you should be OK with 35's. Install a locker and you'll probably be spitting out axles.
