Oil puke. Whats the deal?
« on: June 14, 2010, 10:04:12 AM »
Whats the deal with these damn mopar engines? My 2.5 is now slightly pushing oil out the dipstick tube. It used to push oil real bad out the valve cover breather tube, till someone told me to clean the brass nipple in the front of the valve cover. I did that and it is much better. But cruising yesterday, and i could start smelling that familiar fresh oil puke smell.

I also had a 4.0 years back. and i can remember that thing always puking oil into the breather. And every other jeep ive came across.

Surely this is fixable?

Pull the breather tube between the valve cover and the airbox, at the airbox.  Make sure it is sucking air into the valve cover.

If not, too much crankcase pressure.

Have you pulled the other CCV line off at the valve cover and make sure it's sucking into the intake manifold properly?  And that the brass orifice is clean?

lol mopar engine? besides that, i never had any issues with losing oil on my AMC150. i use to drive a 93' subaru legacy, if you wanna see oil puke, that was the machine.  every customer i ever delt with with a 4.0 and 2.5 for regular oil changes seen little to no oil consumption as long as there wasnt any leaks. also a rear main seal could leak and hit the exhaust downpipe causing the smell.

also my company beater van is a dodge caravan with a mitsu 3.0 with 340k. that thing  probably uses half quart of oil every 5,000miles.

good to know. must just have had me a couple of goodies.

yup.  my little puke bottle has a small bit in it. and its still spurts out the dip stick tube.

im gonna do a leak down test and see where the problem is. This bitch probably just needs a rebuild.
