What oil weight do you use?
Whats the lowest rpm you let yourself go down to in 4th gear instead of down shifting (like coming out of a turn)?

Not sure on the pressure.

Should be around 60-ish on the gauge then drops down to 40-ish when idle.

As for turns, I take it you're talking about coasting through then then downshifting afterwards? Or are you coasting then lugging the engine to regain speed?

Mine does maybe 40psi cold 10-20 hot!!!!

Hell, my old 4.0 would get into single digits on idling on really hot days.

Yikes!  10-20 psi!  How many miles?  You may want to double check the reading is accurate and then step up to the next weight of oil if it is in my opinion.  That's my 2 cents, for what it's worth.

My '83 RV started running 10-20 psi hot, even with 15-50w.  Put an analog gauge on the oil pressure port to confirm the low PSI when hot.  I took out the motor and found worn out crank bearings, it was a grenade waiting to go off.  Ended up happening because of an oil bypass ball valve snapped, bypassing the oil filter, starving the main crank bearings while I was towing my jeep.  Only got about 3 camping trips before the motor had to be rebuilt.

good info. I can say that my old 4.0 was worn to hell. You couldnt park her on a hill at all. Not enough compression to stay there. lol  And i changed the oil pan gasket one time, and the cam was so work, you could see multi colors of metal looked like.

Wheres this bypass ball valve?

It was on a Chevy SBC 350 4-bolt main.

Well before changing valves, I'd make sure the gauge and the sender are OK.  They are cheap and do fail.

minimum pressure according to FSM is 13 psi at 600rpm, max pressure is 75psi

according to alldata (if i remember correctly) the normal operating oil pressure at idle is between 26 and 35psi. mine is about 30psi with 10-30 Mobil 1 on a mechanical autometer gauge

I'm running 10-30w full synthetic with a pressure around 35-45 (stock gauge) at warmed up idle and around 700-800 rpm.  '95 YJ 2.5L with 118K miles.
