Topic: HELP! 1997 jeep wrangler, no oil pressure

i own a 1997 jeep wrangler 2.5l, and i just replaced the distibutor a few days ago. ran fine for those days and my check gauges light came on, i have no oil pressure, but i hav oil in my car and its clean, theres a noise coming from my engine too

Did you make sure to plug in the oil sender wire?  It's right next to the distributor.

if there's noise from the engine lower end and from the valves then most likely you are out of pressure, i would take the distributor out and check to see if the oil pump shaft is not broken and make sure is engaged properly by the distributor pinion. Could also be the oil pump intake being bent or broken, but you'll need to take the oil pan off to check that, but since you have replaced the distributor I would start there first, seems the most logical place to check.

If the lifters aren't clicking and the bottom doesn't knock, find a mechanical oil pressure gauge and check the pressure that way. Better than 10 psi at hot idle and around 40 psi or better at about 2000 rpm all is well, check the sensor for the oil pressure on the engine

im pretty sure its the oil pump but would that be making the engine sound like that?

If you dont have oil pumping through the motor, then yeah it could be makin noise cause the parts aren't being lubricated and you have metal on metal

yes it would make noise from the valvetrain (lifters and such) and from the crank+connecting rods - would rattle pretty loud with no oil pressure.

Have you at least taken off the valve cover and looked for oil?  I wonder if you didn't seat the distributor all the way.  I haven't looked at the 2.5L but for most other engines there is a tang on the bottom of the distributor that connects to the oil pump.  You can usually make a tool with a long screwdriver and drive the oil pump with an electric drill.  This is pretty old-school way of checking.

There is one on the bottom of the distributor, I had the distributor out and went ahead and checked the pump to make sure it was working since my pressure seemed a lil low
