Has anyone dealt with offroad heroes? over at Jeepforum everyone says it's a crappy company, poor customer service, parts took forever to arrive, etc.
I'm really interested in their headliner since I can't find somebody that sells anything like the one on the post that Jeffy mentioned. I'm planing a 2200 mile trip south for January - February and it would be really useful to damp the highway noise especially with the rack on.

It appears that California Tops and Offroad Heroes are the same company. That DIY is really good, I'll start looking for something similar. I was reading about hardtop insulation on quadratec forum and a guy said that anything that works for thermal insulation, also works for acoustic insulation, he said he was a marine engineer so I'll give him some credit (http://www.quadratecforum.com/showthread.php?p=873600).

It's pretty billy-bob, but back when I ran a hardtop on my YJ I simply used 1" foam insulation board, the residential type that has foil covering on each side.  Cut it the size of the inside of the hardtop and put it on before the hardtop.  It stays put between the rollbar and the hardtop.

I was looking into that, i think I'm going to go that way and spray paint the tin foil. I'll attach it with velcro or something like that, like de DIY Scott posted.

3M makes some good spray on stuff that sticks real good. Not sure if it's avail down there.

Yes, it's available here, but I'm looking for something that I can remove for storage, that's why I'm thinking velcro or double-sided tape.

I am trying to think of why you need it removeable? Once in place it does not take up much room on the roof of the top.
Do you remove the top and put it upside down and put stuff inside for storage?

I was reading another thread on jeepforum about insulating the hardtop, and somebody who had done more or less the same thing said that nasty bugs (spiders, cockroaches  ) had made nests between the insulation and the hardtop while he had it on storage in his garage. Considering I don't have a garage and my top lies on my yard while I have my soft top on, I can think of a few things that would find a nice and cozy home in my top

A few more things have to happen before I can confirm that I can actually do the trip, when they happen I'll open a thread about it. In few words, my plan is to go to Ushuaia (Argentina's most southern city) through Argentina and then come back through Argentina's Route 40, then cross the Andes back to Chile and drive south to Villa O'higgins, the most souther continental town in Chile, then all the way back home to Santiago (where I live).  The last time I wanted to do a similar trip a truck totalled my Jeep, two months before january. 

More or less like this:



Purple is the the road to Ushuaia, green the road back, red, little side trips. Once un 100% sure it's going to happen, I'll post details of the route.

According to mapsource it's 5500 miles total. Of which 4000 are unpaved, rarely maintained roads.

This is the Chilean Austral road:



And the Argentinean Route 40:


I did a similar trip back in 2000 with my family in our 97 suburban, the Route 40 ate 3 Goodyear tires, our gearbox, and the front differential. I'm 100% confident that the Jeep can take this and much more with proper in route maintenance.
