Topic: lubelocker. anyone use this?

they boast a simpler, easier time changing diff fluid. apparently reusable and doesnt leak. anyone use these? about how long is the life expectancy on these?

Even though they're reusable, I can't see spending $22 on a gasket.  $6 tube of Permetex goes a LONG way when properly used.

And if I use it, it will leak forever.  Just how my luck runs.  I would happily spend $22 for a gasket if I knew it wouldn't leak.

RTV works great on the diff covers (or at least in my case).

if you decide to use the lubelocker gasket make sure you apply a thin film of oil on the surfaces or the silicone tracks will bond to metal otherwise and get damaged when you remove it - with a bit of oil will come apart easily when removing the cover (on the other hand should be cleaned/degreased when using RTV only).

well a lot of negative responses.
the reason i was considering this was that i recently learned (from another thread i posted) that i should prob change the diff fluid anytime i cross muddy/watery terrain. a lot of my wheeling involves going through deep puddles and such. so i figured something like this would make it easier to change and save time since i wouldnt have to wait for RTV to dry etc. Then again, ive put on 30k miles on the jeep since i got it and never changed out the diff fluid even with all the water/mud crossings. so perhaps i dont have to change it out as often as i now think? but if i do...then it sure would be nice to have a gasket that i could re-use...or any kind of gasket other then the kind u have to make.

You do not have to change your diff oil every time you cross a stream as long as the axle vent hose is still intact and tight on the diff. If you are worried about it take the fill plug out afterwards and see if the oil turned gray as long as it has it's original color it has no water in it. The lube locker gaskets are not a bad thing, just overpriced and not truly necessary

I think I would do axle tube seals before a lube locker. They are around $45 on ebay.

I bought a diff cover off another forum and the seller was throwing in one of these as a gimme...  I must say, it is pretty sweet.  I had to mess with my ARB a few times and as a result had to drain the diff 3 times over the course of a week.  With this gasket, it was soooo nice not having to wait for curing or whether or not it made a complete seal...  Granted, i'd never pay that kind of coin for a gasket :)
