I can't wait to man. I still have to regear my axles and get lockers though. I keep fumbling on the decision and its driving me nuts. So far it looks like D44's front and rear with 4.88's and start with an ARB in the rear. I was just going to regear and get lockers for the stock axles but then realized that I shouldn't dump a bunch of loot into axles I'm eventually going to swap anyways.
I keep seeing these D44 axle bodies on craigslist. Is it a good idea to buy one and just build it as I get cash or wait and just buy a built up axle flat out and talk one of you gentlemen into giving me a hand putting it in? I rally don't know much about swapping gears, installing lockers or setting the new perches. Some people say that it's easy but it seems like a PIA to me.
You will want to buy complete axles. I wouldn't trust a bare housing on cragslist. You don't know if it has problems until you build it and then, you've wasted more money and time. You can't tell if the housing leaks or if it has spin bearing surfaces, etc...
Check on pirate4x4.com and watch for someone dumping their axles for larger ones. Otherwise, you could to Salvage Yard hunting. There are some in Hayward and Concord. If you go let me know and I might go.
If you have all of the tools it's easy(er). If not then it can be a PITA.
