power steering idle up switch

I was usin the winch, and needed a tad more throttle to keep the alt from squeelin the belt. I put a toggle switch on the power steering idle up circuit hoping that would get me some more rpms. It did. Like maybe 20rpms.   :flush:  So that helps. But was hoping for 100rpms or so. But looking back, 100rpms would probably be ridiculous for the power steering app.

What ways do you all kick up the idle for accessories?

I notice its about an 8volt circuit when the switch is closed. Has anyone ever tried increasing the voltage on that circuit.

What if I increased the voltage to 9volts?

it's a reference switch on/off - don't put voltage on it, that's not the way it works. Should raise your idle about 100 with no load, if it's under load would be less. clean your IAC (idle air control) valve, if that's clogged you'd get less of an increase (that's the one that gives you higher idle when the switch is activated).

Just install a hand throttle and be done.

Any threads on it? Didnt find anything searching 'hand throttle'.

x2.. make sure its the clicker kind of course, as apposed to the bike brake handle kind that wouldn't hold at a input for you...

There is also a Idle up connection on the engine computer for Air Conditioning.

Mine bumps the rpm up by about 400 rmp when I hit the AC until the pump pulls it back down.,..

good point, didn't think of that. maybe even both activated for a higher idle. I'll check the FSM see what it says (if i can find it on the PCM connector)

pin 27 - A/C request signal - this tells the PCM that A/C operation is selected, the PCM will control the A/C from there (by providing ground to pin 34 on the PCM to energize A/C compressor clutch relay)

pin 28 - A/C select signal - is energized when the A/C low pressure switch is closed, this gets +12v from the A/C low pressure switch

by the looks of it both would get +12v signal (pin 27 when you turn on the A/C and pin 28 when the compressor is running and both low pressure switch and the A/C thermostat is closed).

Just get a hand throttle.  You can set the RPM to where ever you want.  They're cheap to setup as well.  Nothing electronic to deal with either.  Then you can use it instead of having to three-foot it.

3 footing it for me is not a problem. And the hand throttle just looks so hilljack to me. 

The AC route sounds good.

I often turn on the ac when idling around, it helps with engine braking on down hills
and gives me just a tic more speed forward ,,, occasionally handy...

won't work, it uses the cruise control - YJ didn't have one from factory

Correct, will not work by itself, thought maybe it'd be enough info for somebody to fab in the speed control module as well.

Very involved but not near as hilljack :baby:
