AX5 off eBay
« on: November 30, 2010, 12:28:33 PM »

My second gear synchronizer is starting to fail.  It started just barely grinding when shifting up to second after my last wheeling trip (June) and has been getting a little worse since then.  Double clutching is working for now but I would rather it worked well.  Would buying a used one (not one of the remanufactured ones) off eBay be a good way to go?

Thanks

Would that be cheaper then going to a bone yard?  I wouldn't buy a reman. especially off ebay.

Not sure about cheaper but eBay would be a lot easier and faster since YJs are rarely if ever to be found in the bone yards here in Monterrey.  The best scenario would be to buy it from an individual but it might be quite a while before one shows up for sale.

How about TJ or XJ?

The TJs might be available.  What is the range of years with external slave?  Any differences between YJ and TJ (transfer case shifter arrangement maybe)?

Thanks

All of the transmissions are the same.  Bell housings are different but you can reuse yours.  All TJ's have external slaves.  Transfer case shifters are not apart of the transmission and are interchangeable.  (ie. unbolt yours and reuse it.)

Definitely worth considering.  What year is out of and how much would the shipping be to Laredo, Texas?

It's out of a '94, worked well, and was well taken care of, (belonged to a buddy of mine, he gave it to me when I bought his 4 banger).  I have no idea what shipping would be or even how to ship, it would shipped from Fairview, PA 16415.  I'll look into what I can do about shipping.

Sounds good.  For further communication, my email is my login name for this forum "at" yahoo.com.  I'll also need to check with the guy who will do the importation to see what he would need.  Mainly it is a receipt that usually includes the shipping charges but I need to check how "official" it needs to be.  Thanks
