I am looking at building a single seat to take the place of the rear bench. So I can bring my son and daughter along on longer trips.
Can someone measure there stock seats as far as width. YJ or TJ will do. Not sure how much room I would gain. But a bucket seat has to be more comfy than the low back bench that the YJ came with.
you wouldn't be gaining much room - i have a stock seat in the garage that i cam measure tonight and let you know the exact size - your wheelwells would pretty much push the seat so far in that I don't even think you'll have enough room for a cooler (just guessing).
I think you'd be better off with a military style foldable seat something like the Willys had in the rear (or maybe it was Land Rover that i saw that in) - simple metal frame, fairly thin and narrow with foam padding that can be folded down - problem with the stock rear bench is that is too thick so it takes a lot of room even folded.
I wanted to do the same thing but never got around to actually work on this, my ideal emergency 3rd rear seat would be something like i just described that can be folded down and up against the passenger seat (like the stock bench but only on 1 side).
