I am new to this but I don't really see a need to regear for 31s. I just bought my 99 four banger a month ago and it has 31x10.50 mts on it and gets up to 65 to 70 with no issues on the highway. I will however be regearing to 4.56s or 4.88s when I put my lift and 33s on it.

You would if you went from the stock 205s that came on the jeep and than jump right to 31s. you are just use to not having any pep, put a set of 205s back on there and it will come back to life.

The biggest problem people have is putting bigger tires on and not regearing, than thinking its great or livable.
Lucky for me I do all my own work so it just cost for the parts so it's not that big of deal.

Very true. I never did have the 205s on it that came stock. I don't do all the work my self but most but I manage a firestone so I have ase techs to do it for free and get cheap cost on parts which helps a lot.

Without all of the extra weight a 2.5L with stock 205's is very quick and fun to drive.  The Jeep feels really small if you're used to lifted Jeeps.  Even going from 33's to 31's is a big difference.  Regearing with 33's can give you back the small Jeep feel to some extent.  It never feels as quick when you're dealing with 35's or larger though.  All that extra weight associated with a running 35's slows you down even more so.

Yeah its my first jeep so I am going kinda slow with the mods and taking my time doing my research on forum. I like the 2.5. It has plenty of pep for the driving I use it for around town and the mild trails I ride on. I don't think I will ever go with anything over the 33s and if I do ill just swap in a 350 and some dana 44s but I don't see that happening. I will prolly  regear down the line and do some bolt ons but I didn't get the TJ for speed. I still have my lifted denali if I want power.

There is no real need to do a 350 swap for 33's or larger.  Just regear.  It won't be as quick but then you would already know that.  If you're staying gas then a 5.3L Vortec would be teh swap to do.

Check out the Skinny tire thread.  I think there are a few lifted jeeps on 31's.

Howcome they never had a v8 option in the TJ's and Yj's, the engine bay is more than big enough to take it and a v8 with d44's sounds like a wicked jeep setup to me....a little overkill even.

Who makes a 32x10.5R15?  Interco?

Most Aluminum OE wheels are either 7" or 8" so a 10.5" tire will be fine.  I'd probably go with the 7" though.
