Jeepair...
« on: December 20, 2011, 04:21:28 PM »
Well, I placed an order with Jeepair.com back on Oct 6th.  I noticed they got teh order wrong on the 19th and contacted them.  Took a while emailing them back and forth but I got it fixed.  What a PITA it is to get them to build the kit with an OEM compressor.  In any case, the guy Doug said they were back-ordered a week but would get it out ASAP.

ASAP must mean different things in Florida.  I contacted them again on Nov 17th and he said they were getting caught up and it would be shipped out Friday.

I guess since he didn't say which Friday, it could be any Friday he chooses.  So today, I got fed up.  I filed a complaint with the FL   BBB.  I emailed them but I don't know if I'll get a reply since it's Christmas.  I called their local and 888 number and it just rang till the automation kicked in asking what extension I wanted.

I'll have to check the CC to see if I can contest the billing as a back-up plan.

On the plus side, I have talked to ACkits.com who also makes a Jeep kit.  The only difference is they require you to use their compressor.  At this point I dont' care, I'll make it work with my OBA.

I got an email today as well as a UPS notification.  They said it shipped this morning.

I also noticed their phone number is different then the one on their website.

So, we'll see...

ACkits.com seems to be more up and up BUT I'm not sure if they actually are.  There aren't that many companies that sell YJ kits which requires the huge duct.

Eh, looks like ACKits.com doesn't make a TJ kit.

Well, I got all my stuff from Jeepair BUT it took almost 4 months!  They also charge you when you place the order so they had a no interest loan for 4 months as a result.  It seems everything that I ordered came but was really slow about getting here.  That would be my only concern/warning.

I'm not sure what was up with them.  They get a -A from the BBB.  The complaint was shipping as well.  If they told me it would have been a 4 month wait, I wouldn't of had a problem with it.  Also, I think it's poor business to charge someone before it ever ships.

Keep in mind that they're aren't that many companies that sell YJ AC kits.  The ducting is a custom piece and I've only seen it available at a few places.  I'm actually kinda surprised that you can even buy them still.

The three places are:

That's it.  All seem to use the same generic compressor and bracket system.  My problem was that I have a York compressor that bolts to the same mount.  Although, now that I think about it, I might have been able to get it to work.  Oh, well!

so are you going to relocate the compressor somewhere else or offset the york? (like onboardair brackets are)

do you need a/c this time of year? or is it to have ready for summer?

also they prob took your money and ordered it directly from the manufacturer is prob what took them so long & why they charged you 4 months before you got it.

I've got both Kilby bracket sets for my York as well as both clutches.  I'll make the York offset on the side.  Actually looking at the actual install for the generic kit, I wouldn't have been able to use your York brackets.  Even the generic compressor is offset.  The only problem I have with the Kilby offset bracket is that the top strap broke.  Not that I could use it anyways as it was for a Non-AC setup.  They were prone to breaking on the 2.5L's which is why it was redesigned.  After some thinking, I know why it was breaking though.  I've got to figure out how to make a new top strap that's adjustable.  Maybe use small heim's.

The ducting is actually molded with the company's name in it, Nostalgic Air Parts "NAP".  The compressor is a new mfg from Texas.  Jeepair/NAP is located in FL.

I've got to install the big bits then figure out how to route the hoses so I can cut them.  Mounting everything doesn't look to be that hard.  I've got to get 4 long bolts though.  Oh and get a new belt.

Ducting is from them.  The compressor was ordered elsewhere.  Still, they shouldn't have charged me until, it was shipped.  I would probably have made 30% or higher on a 4 month loan.
