what housing, i missed that picture (i think).
Evaporator housing.  The big vent.  The expansion valve sticks out the back on the pass side.

He had me try pushing in the expansion valve but it's a no go.  It has maybe 1/4-1/2" of movement but I think it's getting compressed already.  I pulled the unit and can see the marks it's made in my stock vent housing.  The probe on the expansion valve is pressed in a bit as well.

It's a substance used in the HVAC to isolate temperatures so there is no outside influence.

use a heat gun on the stock vent housing to push it in a bit, i don't see that being that big of a deal unless there's somethin there other than the plastic (inside the stock housing i mean).

The metal tube is a temperature probe that regulates coolant flow so as not to freeze up the lines.  I'd rather not have to invent new ways to mount a bolt-in kit.  It's a mfg. issue.
