Wheel backspacing
« on: March 11, 2012, 05:58:13 PM »
SOA with OME springs what backspace wheels should I use with 35's? I have stock jeep canyons on it now with 33/10.50 and I know those wheels won't work.

Should I get 15x10 w/4" back space or 15x8 w/3.75? I don't really like the idea of them sticking out to far and don't want to buy wider flairs if I do decide to drive it on the street.

Well, whatever you do your tires are going to stick past the flares.  You could add 1" spacers to your Canyon's and then adjust the steering stops and keep the tire mostly under the stock flares.  That would give you 4.5" BS.  I wouldn't go with less then 4.25" if you want to stay under the stock flares.  8" wide wheel with 3.75" is going to put around 4" of the tire outside the stock flare.  You'll need 6-7" wide flares to cover the tires 100%.

I think I found what I need, Black Rock steel D window 15x8 with 4 1/2" back space.  Do you think 35's will rub on the springs with them?

A little but you can turn out the steering stops a bit.

You want your tires to be past the flares because it looks cooler. Also it gets the Jeep muddier!

For rocks, it's very good to have the tires sticking out, it helps keep the sheetmetal and flares intact.

Meh, getting a face full of mud gets old after a while.

That's what rockrails and rock flares are for.  I can have my tires stick out easilt if I took off my flares.  No reason to tear up the flares.
