High-Amp Alternators

Well, I'm in need of one again as my rebuild had a bad bearing and I've had it apart for a few months and haven't bothered to order new bearings.  I might as well now just get a new one.

I saw there were a few more options now.

My old one was modded to 170a from this seller.  It lasted 2 years, IIRC.

A bit cheaper and looks better but still a reman.  It's an OE 160a.

Have you considered getting a Premier Power Welder with their alternator?  It should be a good one.

Have you considered getting a Premier Power Welder with their alternator?  It should be a good one.
I want to keep the cost below $150.  Although I would like a welder.

it is a good price regardless, but if it's reman is cheaper at Amazon

Well, it say's it's new and not a reman. and the seller is 99.7% with a green star.

Hey Jeffy,

I installed a 136 amp alternator, upgraded the big 3 wiring to 4 gauge, and popped in an Optima Yellow Top at the same time. I got the alt brand new for $100 from 'Penny Pincher Auto' in Phoenix, AZ and it came with a lifetime warranty. I can't remember the brand off the top of my head but I still have the packaging in a storage unit so I can check for you in the next week or two. I was also looking at the 160+ options and hoped to make a junkyard find, but this option ended up making the most sense at the time. I needed to upgrade because I'm running a 600w (rms) amp to drive 2 300w rms 10" subwoofers built into the backseat and a 1000w power inverter mounted under the dash, and it was making my headlights dim and flash at night and would drain the battery every couple weeks. The new one's worked perfectly for me for the past year-and-a-half since I installed it; no more dimming headlights, poor starts, or anything electrical related. I also tracked fuel mileage before and after. I installed the 4.0L TB at the same time as the amp, and the combination of the two resulted in a mere .2 mpg reduction afterwards, barely even worth mentioning. Hope that info helps, let me know if I can be more descriptive.

did you find out if its a reman or rewind?

It lists it as new and when you go to ask a question it says it's new.  So I'm thinking it's new.  A reman is easy to spot so I'll know once I get it which should be before the end of next week.

Well, it arrived in a box that was more like a paper bag.  It was pretty beat up.  The alternator was in a flattened cushion of paper.  At least on the "bottom".  Two "problems" I found, one was the plastic isolator was busted.  The thin guard on the back was battered a little in one area.  My other alternator had the same damage on that part.  The plastic part gets replaced with the Jeeps anyway so that's not really a problem.

The alternator is new.  I think they build them there though.  It has a generic "200 AMP" sticker with "Made In the US" on it.  All the parts look new though.  I'll get around to installing it in a few days.

I had to grind down that plastic isolator to fit 4 guage wire and its accompanying ring terminal on mine anyway, and just sealed the finished product up really well with heat shrink to insulate the connection from the housing. ...if that plastic boot around the (+) terminal is the isolator you're referring to.

The pulley doesn't go with the alternator.  It's for my Kilby OBA.
