Drivers door stuck closed
« on: January 18, 2013, 11:41:42 AM »
I cannot open it by either Handle outside or inside. I have half Doors, but have glass slider windows on top.  Got an Idea how to get it open so I can work on it.  I'm sure I saw something like this before but cannot find it.

only thing i can think of is to take the cover off the inside and reach with your hand to try and find the little lever on the lock, if you have a spare lock would be easier to get some practice with it first or try to understand how it works on the other side.

never had to do this myself so this is just theory, no practice with it at all.

Strange that both handles would stop working.  Usually the outer handle fails but the inner handle works.  Here's what I'd do.  Unbolt the driver seat and take it out so you have room to take the door panel off.  There are 4 torx bolts under the seat.  You will have to slide the seat all the way forward to get to the ones in the rear and all the way back to get to the ones in the front.  Take the strap off the door.  Then you can try to pop the pannel off.  You won't be able to get the top off though as your upper will prevent that.  My guess is that the pivot for the rods broke or the rod that connects to the actual latch came off or broke.

You might want to try removing the inner latch and see if you can work the rod manually.

The only other thing I can suggest is to lube the lock (e.g., powdered graphite) and work with the key to ensure that the door is unlocked.  Otherwise, pull the interior panel as suggested.

Hmm, if the arm on the lock itself that's not working, that would be a real PITA to get to.  You're still going to have to take the panel off the best you can though.

Looked it over may just have to take off the hinges and remove the door.  With My Slider windows there is no way to get the  door panel off without removing the sliders.  They fit in the opening well enough that I cannot lift to clear the pins.

Even if you take the hinges off the door will still be locked on. Take your top off and remove the sliders and take the panel off. Sorry it's a lot to do to get the door to open.

i don't think the sliders are perfectly straight on the side. The panel behind the door may get in the way and prevent him from simply lifting the slider out once the top is back.

Yep just looked at it would need to drop the windshield too.

I may just rip the old panel off.  I need to replace it anyway.

Like I said before you should be able to peal them back if you take the seat out.

this is fairly obvious but i thought i'd ask anyway since nobody mentioned it - did you try unlocking the door with both the key and the unlock latch  button from the inside? (seems that the latch has different lever points for the inside/outside) just thinking that you might have tried one and not the other, it could be that for one of them the rod came out but the other might still work. Again, just a thought, not a joke or anything. If the door is locked (and not the handles not working) you might also want to try to unlock (pull the latch) with a bent rod in case you can't unlock the door from both inside or outside.

Tried both in and out.  Also Since I put in the new Seats about the only way for me to remove the seat is with the Door Open. :rage:
