I had that issue and remember the article.  I don't miss those other trucks one bit.

In 1989 it was a big departure.  Fourwheeler was mostly a glam truck mag which was one of the main reasons I read 4Wheel Drive & Sport Utility.  Even back then, they mainly had real trucks.

I remember have a stack of magazines that had nothing but show trucks. It was a pretty big deal when they all of a sudden started showing rigs for the functional components not the shine .....

The first time I saw Jeep in one I was hooked, first car was an 82 CJ-5 and been Jeep person ever since. That old willy's might be a little more hard core than me though ... I still like a few modern conveniences .. like say ... a windshield!

Awesome stuff, cool to see its still around. The glam trucks are probably all in the scrapyard.

I quickly stopped picking up Four Wheeler mags for the same reason. 4Wheel & Sport Utility is where it's at.

Funny thing is Phil Howell was the head editor back then and reclaimed the position a few years ago.  He was always pro-4banger.  All of the 2.5L Projects they did were his.
