Roller Rocker ID help
« on: November 29, 2013, 04:14:35 PM »
Can anyone ID these roller rockers? They look like Yella Terra to me but I'm not sure since I haven't seen a set in person. They are 1.6's I have the opportunity to buy them for $225 they were on a 4.0 so I will have 2 extra sets. They have the 1.6 stamped in the top end closest to the valve.
Thanks. All

single shaft so most likely Yella Terra. If you do this i recommend the 1.7, however the cost is prohibitive if you buy them new, you still gain a bit as the stock ones even if they're rated at 1.6 they only lift 1.52 to 1.55 due to flexing and wear.

make sure you get the shims from him if you buy them.

They have the bolts and the shims, I have no choice in the ratio as the guy brought them to my shop today to try to sell them to me, plus the cam I am going to use  when I do my engine build would put me at well over .500 in lift. I told the guy that has them that I wanted to research them before I bought them, I have them in my shop so they aren't going anywhere. If they were 1.7's I would try them before getting  a cam.
Thanks Al

if you get a cam then def worth it, but make sure the shafts are ok (why did he take them off?).

They were in a Cherokee that was being junked, he was going to pull the engine first but the guys a the boneyard he was selling it to wouldn't buy it without it so he put it all back to stock before selling it to them.

I didn't think they fit under the 2.5 valve cover without a spacer? (Recall someone fighting this a while back..?)
And nobody sells a spacer for the 2.5 only the 4.0... ?? So its a custom piece to make them fit?

I thought the Yello Terra did fit under the stock valve cover without spacers.

The cam I will be getting is a Clay Smith H264 12 B .480 lift with the 1.6's. I will let everyone know in a bit if they'll fit. Yella Terra list them on their site and I didn't see any thing about a spacer.

The Yella Terra's and Harland Sharp's will fit under the stock covers without a spacer.
No matter where you're going, there you are.

Ok the rocker arms fit fine under the valve cover with no problem. I didn't need to use the shims. I don't know how much if any power was gained but it felt a little stronger and smoother. As for the cam
From Clay Smith I spoke with George and he suggested the profile I posted in the time to build it thread and not to go past 264 duration and 112 centerline with efi on our engines.

how did you figure you didn't need shims (seems odd that none of them needed any).

I meant to say: I didn't need to use all the shims I did use some of them.
