I don't think I've ever had mine overheat while not in 4wd. Mine heats up pretty quick. Maybe a 1/4 mile and I've got enough heat to notice it through the heater. Though it doesn't get that cold here. 45-55's. Even in the summer at +100* and no fan, the engine will edge into the red. That's while coming to s stop from +55 mph with no fan. Once I got moving even a little, there was enough air to drop the temp back out of the red.
I'm running a stock 195* thermostat though. Going by the gauge my engine runs around 197-200* normally. Doesn't get much over 210* unless I stop and then the drops once the fan kicks in. I doubt the gauges accuracy but as long as it's consistent, I'm not bothered.
