I think I am going to change the plugs and wires, should I stick with champion and mopar?

Champion's are crap, stick with Autolite, bosch etc..

I've always used something other then Champion which are usually OEM.  I've run Accel U-Groove, Bosch Platinums, etc... and now standard AutoLites.  I've heard Champion truck plugs are pretty good.  Has to do with the copper.

I haven't had much luck with Platinum's.  I've read others don't have good results either.  One plug I'd like to maybe try is a NGK Iridiums.  THey are $$$ though.

All the new trucks seem to be using Iridiums and they claim their good for 90K which may account for the big $$ they get. A few years ago while working as a mechanic for NASA Ames Dryden they provided Champion plugs for all our tune-ups and they would die really fast! Champion may have better performance grade plugs but I will never waste my money trying them.

my jeep runs MUCH better with champion truck plugs than it did with any other brand I've ever tried.  using accel plug wires also.... plug wires can get expensive but i notice no difference between the $39 accel's and the $80 msd's......

I have had the very same experiance with Champion plugs, and have found that spending $$$$$ for plug wires is a waist of money also. (unless ya got to have pretty colors  :roll:  )

You won't notice any difference unless you start increasing the gap of the plugs.  .035" is the stock gap.  Using the stock gap with perfromance wires will net you nothing.  I currently run my gap at .065" with no problems.

i don't like champions.  At the dealership we pull the champions and run ngkr's.  I run the standard autolite resistors.  I do use the ngk iridiums in my suabru but that is a totally different animal.  My jeep probably has under 200hp and the subie has 400hp and needs the high fire plugs but the jeep may be a waste for them.

Wal*Mart didn't have the standerd or coper autolite plugs for Jeep but did have platnums.  Are they any good?

I don't think you'll see any benifit with platinums.  Sometimes platinums can cause problems as well.

On my Nissan, the only thing that runs good, no great, are the NGK Iridiums.  A sports car, or sporty engine loves those things...

On the Jeep, I just put in the NGK V-groove.  Now I haven't driven it since I put those in, so let's hope that there's a noticable improvement over the Champions that were in there for about 2-3 years...

I'm running a MSD ignition so I gapped them at .40, although I heard that I should have gapped them at .50.  So we shall see...

I got MOPAR wires and NGK vpower plugs.  What is the required gap size and how many lbs should I trq the plugs to?

.035 gap

i usually just snug them and then give them about 1/4 turn at most

Look at the Emissions sticker under the hood.  It will tell you the propper gap.  As for tightness, I do it by feel.  (Seated + 1/8 turn)

that's a pretty good combo, you should be fine.
