I'll take my turn at it now, I guess.  I've been Jeeping officially for a year now, but wanting to for 20.  I purchased my red '97 TJ last October off of ebay.  It had nasty wheels, junk top, and a manifold bolt broken off.  I repaired the bolt, ordered a new RAT Bestop, a 2" Skyjacker BB and disconnects and been driving it ever since.  However, I have swapped wheels and tires (32 x 11.50's on black Cragar's), lined the tub with spray on bedlliner, new center console with sub, Wet Okole seat covers, and a safari top.  I just recently upgraded my intake with the 4.0 TB, TB helix bore spacer, intake tube from the 4.0, and an AEM Dryflo filter.  Wow, that made a difference.  I'm hoping for more mods in the future, and due to my passion / sickness / obsession, I recently was able to talk a friend of mine into his first Jeep 4banger purchase, a '99 automatic, which obviously will need some help.  Just what I needed, another Jeep project...   Seriously...

Well, thanks to Jagular7 (he's a fellow KC Jeep Club member) I found this site.  Since I've had my rig for over 6 years, I've become a strong advocate of the 4 banger Jeep.  A little about my rig and it's pilot.

I have a 1994 YJ that I bought in 2000 with only 38k on the clock.  I'd wanted a jeep since I was 5 (I was 24 when I finally bought one) and cannot possibly fathom how I lived without it before!

Since purchasing, I've learned to wheel, and wrench, and wheel again.  I've installed a Superlift 3.5" lift, 2" body lift, Dana 44 rear from an XJ, Lockrights F&R, TJ shafts in the D30, Custom Belly-Up, JKS 1" Budget MM lift, AA SYE and CV shaft, Custom front shock hoops w/ 14" Bilstein 5150s, Custom rear shock mounts (inboarded upper mounts, post-style lowers) w/ 12" travel Bilstein 5100s, Deaver Spring Baja Bushings, TJ flares, flat fenders, 35" MT bias-ply Claws, E-350 master cylinder, Custom brake lines, hand throttle, Custom rear bumper w/ swing-out tire carrier, custom front bumper, I think that's about it.

I've done 99% of the work myself (I've only paid for gears, the rest is all me.) and learned a lot along the way.

(I've edited this like 5 times because I keep remembering other mods...I think I'll just stop now! )

BTW - I tend to get a little wordy in my posts...if you can't tell.

Thanks!  It does alright, there are always things that I need or want to change.

Right now I have plans for an SM465 tranny swap.  I don't really "need" a granny low transmission, but the AX5 is crap.  Last spring I swapped one in that I got for free, and with most free things, it is not exactly perfect.  I lost 3rd in the old one, and this one has some 2nd gear issues.  I picked up the Muncie transmission for $50, now I just need another thousand for adapters and other stuff.

I don't have too many poser pics of my rig, but here are a couple of my favorites.

http://www.kcjeepclub.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7344

These were prior to the shock modifications, I just finished those a week ago.  I spent quite a bit of time in that hole before finally making it out.  Multiple 2nd gear clutch drops @ redline tends to draw a crowd.

Hi. Names Tim and I bought a 02' TJ back last Febuary and I beat the hell out of it as much as I can. And It takes me everywhere.  It's an SE with a 5speed, yellow with a rag top. About the only thing I've done to it is slapped a K&N in it and 31X10.5X15 on it and run Mobil 1 in everything. It's also my daily driver so I see how shitty my gas milage can be. So I'm very happy to find this web site and I hope you guys can help me with what ever I need and I hope to do the same right back. Thanks

Hey, I'm Travis- I bought my first jeep in may- it's a red '90 yj 4cyl.  The previous owner rebuilt the engine, and now its got a 2.5" lift and 31x10.5 tires.  Other than that it's totally stock- I'm in college and therefore have very little money to burn.  My immediate plans are to roll on herculiner in the tub, and pick up a hard top.  Anyway, thanks in advance for answering my jeep questions.

My name is Keith and I live near Chicago, IL.  I had a 90 Geo Tracker for the last 3 years and used it mainly for wheeling and driving around town.  It was a fun little truck but when its auto tranny blew it was time to put it down.  I found a great deal on a 98 TJ SE that needed a lot of work.  It has 139,000 miles and is now in pretty decent condition.  It's only big flaw is a broken exhaust manifold bolt.  It makes noise when cold, but after running of 2-3 minutes the noise goes away.  I'm having fun with the TJ but wish I had gotten a 99+ with the airbag disable swich. I miss having my 3 year old son riding up front with me like he could in the Tracker.

My name is Neale and I live in Monterrey, Mexico where I´m a university professor.  I learned to drive off road in 2wd VW buses and 2wd pickups before getting a '43 GPW which I've had for 20 years.  It is still my favorite vehicle of all time.  I bought a stock '95 Yj in February of this year and have been busy correcting all the things the PO never bothered to fix.  Many jobs are things I've never done before so it is great to find a group like this with experienced DIY's.  Thanks for putting together a great site.

Hello guys, my name is Tom, and I purchased my very first Jeep on 10 November 06. I'm 36, and have wanted one since I was a kid, but could never justify it to myself with family responsibiltites and such. This year, I had the means, and found a great deal on a 1994 Wrangler I4 for $4000, with no rust that runs great.

I look forward to chatting with you guys in the future, and appreciate any helpful advice you can give me.

Thanks.

My college age son and I purchaed a 1989 Red YJ in August from a friend.  Has newer, wider tires and wheels.  YJ is five speed manual with standard 4-cylinder.

We both are having fun driving it (when it is home from college for me).  YJ has brought out do-it-yourselfer in me.  I was amazed to actually see the spark plugs.  Can change bulbs in the dash without making it a major project.

I look forward to suggestions on fixing things.

Bob

a good way to prevent that would be to bribe him with lift kits bumper..ect..... the bribes work.. until there is no more building up to do.. which never happens.

hi, I'm from Nova Scotia, Canada.  Just bought a stock 94 YJ.  I came to this site to get general info on the 2.5 engine and just do a lot of reading about other people's experiences.

I have had a few 4x4s over the years...  81 CJ7, 85 Samurai, 87 Bronco II and now the YJ.  Plan is to make it reliable and then lift it.  It'll be a daily driver with occasional wheeling.

cheers!
