Good morning! from the frozen land of Michigan.
I am a newbie who just registered, but not new to Jeep.
Hoping to learn some things, and share some knowledge too.
Looking forward to the group, and of course being a member in good standing.

Hey y'all. I'm Ricky from deep south Georgia. First time Jeep Co-Owner. The Jeep belongs to my wife, I'm just the mechanic.
'95 YJ, 2.5l auto, 8.8 Ford rear, 3.73 gears, 30x9.5x15 for now.
Looking forward to gaining knowledge here.

Hi all, Bryen here. I have a 2000 TJ and owned it since new. 19 years later still have it and it keeps kickin’! Done a lot of small mods over the years, mostly replacing things as they break. Minimal engine modifications over the years, but finally trying to decide whether I keep the 4 cylinder and build up the motor for more HP and drive ability, or eventually do a swap. The Jeep is mostly nostalgic to me, so hard to let go and just trade up. Interested to see what others with 4-cyl motors are doing and experienced.

Welcome! It really depends on how much nostalgia you have and how much money you want to spend.

Thanks Jeffy. Had it nearly 20 years, so a bit of nostalgia for sure. And I know this jeep inside out. I’m afraid of hot rodding it just to cause issues, but def would like more power. I’m willing to put a bit of money into it, cause it’s also less than buying new or upgrading. $5k doesn’t scare me.

Well, if you're willing to spend that much then a supercharger would be the easy route. It's around $4100. A swap would probably be almost as easy if you have a donor but also be cheaper since you can sell off the donor's parts afterwards. Get a 5.2L or 5.9L Dodge and swap everything over. 4.0L would even be beasier and plug and play if you get a TJ donor.

Appreciate the feedback! I’ll check into these. Been heavily looking into some donors or complete used drive trains lately. I agree the Dodge/Jeep swap is likely the easiest, although the GM LS is tempting, but certainly more difficult.

Hey yall, Pat from Myrtle Beach, SC. My 95 YJ has been in the family for the last 20 years. Has survived my teenage/broke college years and now recently have been "restoring" back to good use.

Hi I joined a few months ago but finally decided to share my project. I have a 1980 CJ5 that I put together about 4-5 years ago. Throttle Down Kustoms galvanized frame, new Omix tub, overhauled 258 with Howell fuel injection. I wanted to have this thing for a long time so I spent a little money on it. I did a few road trips over the years and had lots of fun with it. The last year I really got the urge to do something different. I sold the 258 and 4 speed for a nice bit of money to get started. I really wanted an overdrive and settled on an AX15 out of a Cherokee. I won’t bore you with all the engines I considered but since I’m here obviously I went with a Jeep 2.5; specifically out of a 93 YJ.
Why the hell would I swap out for smaller engine? I’m glad you asked, first, I can now fit a practically bulletproof 5 speed in my CJ5, second, I’ve been wanting to put lower gears (4.88s are the plan) for a while now and this provides a good reason to do so, third, a world war was fought (rather successfully) with 4 cylinder Jeeps, fourth LS swaps are boring and not as cheap as the magazines would have you believe, finally I like bucking the trend. I haven’t even touched on the benefits of the engine since y’all already know those but the brute simplicity while still being fuel injected was big for me. Right now I’m in the process of fabricating the transmission mount. The two engine mounts are done so hopefully will be on and off the road this spring!
