Does this also apply to a 2001 TJ?
What are the benefits from a bigger filter?

More oil and more filter area.  Jeffry does a good job describing that in the FAQ .

The TJ should use the same PH13 filter.

Yes. I understand, but why is that good?

Yes. I understand, but why is that good?

to give you an example, if you have a big party and everyone wants coffee it's better if you have a big coffee maker with a big filter as opposed to a smaller one that would drip slower - so your guests (that you can think of as your main bearings, rod bearings, camshaft bearings, pistons, etc) would get more coffee and also get it faster compared to when using the smaller coffee maker and filter.

hope this explains the matter

Thanks for popping this old thread up. Just grabbed me a 51515 WIX filter and works great.

Bigger is better. More space to filter, less restriction when the filter starts to get dirty, and more oil capacity.
