if you put a 4.0 throttle body from an xj on a 2.5 do you have to bore out the hole in the intake? sorry, if it's a dumb question but i'm new to this jeep thing

You don't have to, but it will be a bottleneck if you don't.

I did not do this when I put mine on, thought about it but did not know if it was worth the trouble.  Do you just remove the intake mark a pattern and grind away?

how much bigger is the hole in the 4.0 compared to the hole in the 2.5 intake?

I guess this thread died, I still would like to know if it is worth the trouble to bore the intake to match the larger throttle body and spacer?  :confused:

id say it is.. but my jeep is too old to do this mod so i don't know form my own experience.

in the long run it is worth matching your intake but probably only if you have the need for that kind of air.  if you are running a mostly stock setup then i would just put it on and you're good.  if you have your motor pretty hopped up like mine then it would be worth it.  i would say if you don't have a full exhaust and intake with fuel upgrades it is probably not worht it to you.

Has anyone ever done this and had negative effects? I've been thinking of ripping my tb off and grinding some myself. Only problem is that I know the aluminum from the intake will clog the stone on the die grinder. Anyone have any remedies for this?

The negative effects would be getting too much air and causing air/fuel problems. (ie., hickups/missfires) It will probably move your powerband further up the RPM range so you might lose some low-end.

Some people use a 2" sanding drum.  Some people have used die grinders or even a Dremel.You could also use a slapper wheel to finish it off and make it round again.  It might be worth it to try and taper the lip some and see if that does anything.

I used my air die grinder and a carbide burr on mine. I think it is worth it. Atleast taper it like jeffy said.
