Henessey isn't really known for being good to their customers and that's putting it lightly.  I would never buy anything from them.

holly shit.. thats more hp than a corvette... but i wouldn't get it.. but if it was a supercharger i might consider it if i had a gc to put it on. i just never really got into turbos as much as super chargers. probably because of the "tuners" that sound like vacuum cleaners.

What sound are you referring to?  They both have the high pitch whine.

just me, but i hate the waste gate sound. i live on a main road and at two in the morning i hear it. eck.

Well, it had a actual use although the whole F&F and Initial D fanboy has embraced the sound to the point of just wanting the sound.  What you're probably hearing is an atmospheric Blow Off Valve. The Greddy Type-S and HKS SSQ are the most popular if you want the sound.  Some cars don't take well to atmospheric BOV's though.

Look at the Subaru Impreza WRC/STi, Subaru Forester, Subaru Outback, Subaru Legacy, Mitsubishi Evolution, Porsche Turbo, etc...  They do not make that sound from the factory.  The new Mini Cooper S is turbo'ed this time too.  (earlier model used a supercharger) Many tractors (as in 18-wheelers) are Turbocharged and they don't make that silly sound either.

There is a guy who lives near me rev up his small block FJ40.  It has Flowmasters and probably no cats.  All he seems to do is rev the engine at night...

People have been supercharging diesels since before WWII.  Turbo'ed V8's are also very common.  Turbo's don't leach power from the engine so it's more suited for smaller engine then a supercharger.  Look at the Mini Cooper.  It went from a Supercharger to a Turbo with the new model.  Bugatti Veyron uses 4 Turbo's.  Porsche has been using turbo's for a long time.  Same goes for Subaru Mitsubishi and Nissan.  I don't think any of these cars have loud wastegates since they don't blow out into the atmosphere.

I think most people here are confusing wastegates and blow off valves... The nissan/mits/suba etc... any car with a MAF (instead of a map) sensor can't run BOV that vents to the atmosphere basically, atleast not without issues. Wastegates typically are routed back into the exhaust except on more high horsepower applications, or low budget external wastegate set-ups lol. And when a wastegate dumps into the atmosphere it is looooud. The main reason people use turbos instead of superchargers is efficiency, turbos kill superchargers in this department. Especially with all the moddern advances in exhaust housings, and gear/traction based electronic boost controllers.

to tell the truth, i don't know much about turbos or superchargers, i've always worked on strictly engines, and the older the better (ie: easier). but there is this one kid, don't even know or care what kind of car it is, lives a little up the road and every time he drives past there is a horrible loud almost whistling noise. i have a freind who said it was a wastegate while we working on my jeep and he went past. well we yelled something at him so now i think he's doing it on purpose.

beer+jeeper+biker+fast and furious wannabe= annoying drive bys at two in the morning

To the comment about not all cars being able to run an atmospheric BOV, I would have to STRONGLY disagree.  Sure in stock form an Evo or ST doesnt run good when you simply unplug the factory BOV and let it vent into the open, but the purpose of a BOV is not for the sound, try running 40lbs of boost through that stock blow off that is vented back into the intake, not going to happen.  If you buy the kit for your car it will have the few things you need to ensure it runs just as good as ever while being able to more efficiently vent the air.

As for the comment made about not being able to run an atmospheric BOV with a MAF car, lol,  you are 100% incorrect.  What you are saying is that on my 1991 Talon with a 2G Mass air flow setup there is no way I can run an atmospheric BOV and have my car run correctly?  I have been involved with turbo charged imports for quite awhile, I know a thing or two about how it all works.  That WHOOOSH! you laugh about can be heard on some of the fastest street cars in the world including your precious outdated muscle cars when turbo charged.  I dont like the sound of a ratcheting locker or the squeel of 35's on a spooled rear end going around a corner but I dont laugh at them for it, because there is a reason it makes that sound, there is a function.. :smokes:

What did you yell?  Chances are that car was faster than anything you have ever owned so why yell somthing rude to someone like that?  You have your Jeep project, you dont hear him yelling at you calling you a hillbilly redneck or an inbred hick.  Thats his project that hes put time into just like you work hard on your Jeep. 

Dont get me wrong, Im not dissing on good old raw all motor power, but when it comes down to it it is amazing what an efficient turbo setup can make for horsepower on any engine, weather you like the sound or not.

Now, back on topic, I wouldnt take that Jeep if it was given to me.  Is it fast?  I guess, for a truck anyway, its nothing blistering quick thats going to scare anyone but for a Jeep its good.  I would much rather buy an STI, EVO or somthing lighter weight that isnt only quick, but can out handle almost anything out there as well.  I guess my point is If I want to go fast, Im not going to look at Jeeps, Im going to look at lightweight turbo cars.  If I want to go offroad, I will go to the Jeep dealer.  Making a fast turbo'd jeep is like making an offroad honda civic, while it may be unique and take a lot of time to develop, like I said before, if I want to go offroad I wouldnt buy the offroad civic, I would go buy a Jeep, and to go fast Id buy a car NOT a Jeep.
Thats just my opinion, it is a cool truck I suppose, but you wouldnt ever see me driving one.

Another way to look at it is this, while it is quick for a heavy truck, that 600+ horsepower in a lightweight all wheel drive car will go high 10's.  Whats the point of trying to make a big heavy SUV go fast?
