2.5l exhaust

i was thinkin about upgrading my exhaust and i was wondering which muffler would be best. i just dont want it to sound like a ricer....

I like my Borla.  It doesn't sound like rice.  Flowmaster was way too loud for my taste.

how about dynomax? i heard they werent too loud but have a nice rumble..

I don't know DynoMax that well.  They have three Mufflers in their line though. 

MagnaFlow, Gibson, Borla & Banks are all pretty good and have decent warranties.  I'd get a good muffler so you're not having to do it over again in a few months/years.  I also recommend going with a bolt-on cat back system.  If something breaks on the trail or off, it will be easier for you to disconnect the broken part and replace it.  You won't have to hack apart your exhaust.

I've replaced my muffler 4 times now.  Stock, Flowmaster and I'm on my second Borla.

I use the stainless Borla Cat-Back (no header) and it sounds ok (it may be a little loud, but its no FlowMaster)  :lol: 

The Dynomax cat-back, non-stainless, is ok. I've used that and it seemed a bit louder than the Borla I am using.  But, it didn't last!

That idea about using a header and keeping the stock exhaust may be something

I've got a flowmaster delta 60 on mine.  Sounds pretty good and not too loud.  Definitely nothing like the Flowmaster 40's I had on the last jeep.

It does not sound ricey... I double checked with a few buddies to make sure...

I got it because it was cheap. You are not going to get any major HP improvements, but it does to to rev out a little faster.

my jeep sounds decent with the header and stock exhaust, its aftermrket stock so its still 2.5" pipe, not stock 2.25"  ill get a sound clip of it reving for you guys sometime soon.

i have the banks exhaust and i have to say at high rpm's 3000+ it just starts to rice out and is ear piercing almost, but other than that, a nice rumble when its idle

And the Borla is straight-through, too.  I'm still trying to figure that one out.  Must be the baffling material Borla uses - extra dense stainless steel brillo pads  :lol:  WOT though, the Borla is loud.  I sometimes go WOT on On-Ramps and people already going 65 on the highway move over to make way for the "champ car" they hear about to merge. 

Frankly, the Borla is livable and durable and looks good, too.  So I am sticking with it.
But, I could handle a muffler that gave the better flow and allowed you to wind out the 4Banger in the 3000-4500rpm range without waking the dead/rustling the cops in urban areas. I know they make mufflers like that for car like the ford focus, etc.

My exhaust got a lot quieter when I switched ignitions.  It was really interesting at higher RPM's.  The exhaust would be be almost unbearable at 4000rpm.  The noise would resonate inside the hardtop.  Now it's fairly quiet.  My original Borla had a S bend between the input and output.  The replacement has a very shallow curve.  I can see straight through it, actually.  I think my exhaust is loudest around 3500-3700 then smooths out around 4000 a bit.  it's still not as loud as my Jeep was with the old Flowmaster or muffler less...

I should mention that Poly engine mounts aren't too kind on exhausts.  My current Borla is missing both hangers.  I have the muffler being held up by the car and the dampener at the skid and I have a bracket holding the tip in place.  I haven't bothered to get it replaced since it still works fine. :lol:

DO NOT go with Magnaflow cat back and Pacesetter Headers, sound like sh*t.
I'll be looking to swap mine out with something else later.

Hey my Flowmaster (dont know which one it is) sounds nice. But maybe its because im a young punk and don't mind  :lol:
