I keep my gps in my jeep.  I have a mount on the dash and i put the gps in the glove box.  Worked so far (knock on wood).

People probably won't agree with me but I have a soft top and I still lock my doors.

I believe in a thing called discouraging theft.  Sure there is a chance they'll just slash my window, but there is also a chance that if they can't open the doors they'll just walk away rather than going further.  Plus, it looks a lot more obvious slashing up a soft top as opposed to opening the door and being perceived as the owner of the vehicle to everyone around you.

I've got one of the older Garmin GPS V handhelds and I guess I've been using that (sheesh!) since 2002.  I keep the thing plugged in to the multiport 12volt at all times.  I use the stock power cord.

What I do is when I reach my destination, I detach the GPS from the little mount on the dash, still keep the GPS plugged in, but put the GPS in my lockably tuffy center console.  Fortunately, the Tuffy has just enough room between the door and the side to allow one to snake a power cord up and lock the door on top of the cord without causing any wear to the power cord. I've been using the same power cord for 5 years - no cord wear and no theft. All fairly convenient and no messing with batteries for GPS, either

now that i think of it my dad got our gps stolen from his jeep last summer.. at work... which is weird cuz there aren't very many people their to be steeling things... but in the end we did get a better gps.
That's just my problem. I really would like a gps because I have the world's worse sense of direction, but what am I going to do, take it out every time I get out of my jeep? Sucks because I grew up in the #2 safest city in the country. I could leave my purse sitting on the hood of my jeep in a parking lot and no one would take it, but now I live on my own and get $5 lotto tickets stolen. Oh well.

I got the Garmin Vista CX....added the chip with all of the streets, restaurants, etc.  Handheld...small enough to be locked in my Tuffy center console...I do leave the window bracket on the windshield though....hmmmm...that would suck if that got stolen. :'(

Had my $100 head unit stolen in my front yard but not my $200 door speakers. :roflol: I still don't lock my doors, my top is worth more to me than anything in the Jeep.

Hmm, my Garmin Legend CX sits in my Jeep 24/7.  It's been in there so long that the batteries have died.  When not in use, I drop it in my lockbox next to my 2M Yaesu FT-1500 and CB.  Since I've got a hardtop I usually leave my tools in the back  with my amp and sub.  It's far enough back that it can't really be seen.  Although if I have more bulky stuff to out back there, I throw a beach mat over them.  I've never had the stereo, amp or sub stolen as of yet though.  The stereo is an older model that probably isn't worth stealing anymore.  Speakers are in the stock location which are a PITA to remove and aren't worth it.  No door speakers or rear speakers.

I even lock up my garage door opener when the top is done.  The last thing I need is someone finding my address on something and then stealing my opener...

Since i only have a soft top, i typically dont lock my doors (mainly because the top is rarely up). I'm not to worried about anyone steeling my whole jeep because unless they have privledged information they will never understand why the jeep will crank all day long and not start  :twofingers:  Although since i will soon have a/c i plan to get a hardtop and full doors to replace my soft-top and then i will lock my jeep.

I thought about installing a secret button you have to push to start the jeep (If that's what you're talking about) and decided it would be more annoying than helpful.

You'd be better off adding a remote kill switch for the fuel pump.  Maybe put one in for the starter, but that's a common one that might be easy to find.

You could do something waky, like wire the starter wire through the wiper switch so you have to turn the wipers on for the engine to start  :bandit:

So your wiper has to stay on while you drive?  Or are you going to move your wipers to something else like the seat belt switch? :fish:

i think he means that for the starter to work the wipers would have to be on.. not for anything to work :fish:

Read the second sentence.  Now think about it...  If his wipers are going to act as the starter, what happens when he wants to use the wipers... :twofingers:
