You could go with the 30RH but an AW4 would more than likely be the best choice. As for what else is needed... I've never done a trans swap I can't give you any advice on parts and whatnot.
02 2.5.L automatic: 4.0L t.b., 4.0l air intake, K&N filter, Scream'n Demon coil, 8.5mm MSD Super Conductor plug wires, Stage 1 Jet Chip, 29" BFG all terrain KO's. Taurus E-fan, Hummer front bumper, Skyjacker high capacity trans pan, 48" hi-lift, Rubi susp w. 3/4" BB.

Putting in a stock A904 is pretty easy.  You need the transmission, flexplate, and a 23 spline NP231.   If your radiator does not have a trans cooler in it then you'll either need an external cooler or a radiator with an internal cooler.  Might need to modify driveshaft lengths as well.

Doing the AW4 in a 2.5 YJ is more complicated and the parts are harder to find.

AW4 Swap parts

1) You need an AW4 - make sure you get an 87-95  anything newer than that gets a little more complex
2) You need to get a bellhousing from an 87-89 2.5L Cherokee with AW4, or you can get one from an isuzu amigo, trooper with the 3.?? v6
3) AW4's come in both 21 and 23 spline  if you get a 91 -95 then you need a 23 spline transfercase
4) 2.5L AW4 torque convertor - they are a pain to find
5) flexplate from whatever year jeep you have - that will need to be redrilled for the AW4 torque convertor
6) TCU for 2.5L - these have different shift points than the 4.0L
7) Driveshafts will need to be modified - front one lengthened, back one shortened about 1.5"
8) Wiring harness for the AW4 - pull one from a cherokee that is the same year as your YJ

If you need more detail than that let me know

I want to do this swap to, ho wwould you rate the A904 as far as reliability goes. I was going to do the AW4 but i dont have a whole lotta money to piece together the parts. Also will modifications to the cross member need to be made as well, ease of install is importaint. I already have an auto radiator so i guess i can cross that off the list. ::)

904 is a pretty beefy tranny, they used some versions of it behind big block chryslers.   The holes should already be in your skid plate to mount the TF904 to.  Just make sure that when you get the 904 that you get whatever bracket mounts between the tranny and tranny mount.

I swapped one into a 2.5L Comanche a few years ago and it was pretty quick and easy.

Sounds great ! I would like to stay away from the aw4, because of the computer and having to do the 1-2 shift bypass to make it useable offroad.

Or you can forget about the TCU completely and go full manual shifting - www.awshifting.com  which is what I've got on mine.

So you have no computer for the tranny at all ? You have to push the buttons to shift all the time ?

Yes, although I do have it wired for a computer.  I found that with the limited power band of the 2.5L that I prefered deciding where the shifts should be.

It's also worth noting that the jeep is not my daily driver, it's just a toy for offroading and occasionally taking to work when the weather is nice.

If you want a A904 then get one out of a wrangler, it'll be easier.  www.car-part.com  is a decent place to start.  A904 = 30RH   A904 is the torqueflite name, 30RH is the Chrysler name

Get a 30RH.  Like oldjeep said, it's the same transmission, just a different name for it.  Newer is better.
