power, power and more power...How do i get it?
« on: November 08, 2007, 05:26:01 PM »
Just posting this to figure out how to get some easy and cheap horsepower and torque...
I heard from other forums that tb spacer and 4.0 tb will help, but the spacer basically starves the engine of oxigen because of the cheap intake system. anyone know of a ram air kit for a 91 2.5L? if not i'll have to fabricate one using cold air intake kit with some parts for the 4.o ram air. i have a flowmaster series 40 muffler on my jp now, and noticed some power, but that was out of desperation. muffler blew open on the highway late one night, had to replace it for inspection 2 days later. again any and all power suggestions welcome.

electric fan helps, 4.0 tb dont bother with a spacer, takes away power.  headers, and 19 lb mustang injectors  and a real cool air intake

Hmm, when did a TPS take power away?

It helps with mid-range torque.  Although it also depends on if you have a 2.5L TBS or a 4.0L TBS and what type.  helix, smooth bore, etc...

Ouch, don't spend $70 on it in the first place...  It's a decent mod otherwise.

I may pull the TBS I have out and see if I notice a change.  I am running it below a bored out, 62mm TB and stock tubing/filter and airbox

Torque off-idle is ok.  But midrange, part-throttle operation seems a bit off, like the AF ratio is out of kilter.

lemme know your results
because i have a spacer as well matched to a 4.0 tb with the helix bore
i would hope it isnt sapping power but i added both the spacer and the tb at the same time so i just assumed that both increased power.

It's shouldn't be.  Although with the helix, it does restrict the air flow some which is why it's recommended to go with a smooth bore or hone out the TBS.  So, in that sense you would have better flow without it then with.  Although your torque curve will also change back.

cool i'll take some of these suggestions and try them out next time i go back home from college (car isn't here). i'll probably end up raiding the junkyard, near me there's one with around 15 wranglers. i could probably jack most of the parts you're talking about. might even snag a 4.0 engine, ax15 and transfer case with driveshafts and some beefier diffs.
