First thoughts after driving JK
« on: January 16, 2008, 09:22:06 AM »
Well, I was at my parent's house yesterday when my dad's friend stopped buy in his JK. Took it for drive and must say I was quite surprised at how much of a difference it was compared to a TJ. Perhaps it may be the newness of it as the rattles have not started yet, but it definatley rode more like an suv than a jeep. Pretty nice though, it was a Sahara unlimited, had 765 miles on it and he already put a plow on her

I like them BUT if I was to get one I'd be looking at the 4dr.  I'd hate to sell my Jeep though.  Too much money, and time put into it.  Not to mention it was my first 'car'.

unlimited is the 4door  :stick:.... we got a Rubicon unlimited and id agree that it rides more like a suv than a jeep. but then again we bought it for driving in the cities through the salt in the winter and collecting miles so that our off road Rubicon doesn't got worn out too fast.

most would say too many.. we have

cj2a (no motor in it but 4.3lv6 in garage waiting for time to install)
49 cj3a
90 yj (mine)
97 grand Cherokee
2003 grand cherokee
2006 tj rubicon
2008 jk rubicon unlimited

so 7 for a 4person family. almost a 2 to 1 ratio.... we got the jeep disease pretty bad.

So I almost got myself a JK, I was still planning on keeping the 4banger but would love the 4 doors when I drag m nieces around which is every weekend. Almost, but couldn't really justify the unecessary expense. :fish:

NOoooooooo!     As much as I'd like a JK Unlimited, I don't see myself getting one.  I like the nimbleness of my YJ.  It's big but it handles pretty good.  I can do a U-Turn within 3 lanes.  I hate running out of room with a longer truck then having to back up while I'm blocking traffic.  Parts are obviously going to cost more as well.  It has a larger then but it's also heavier.  A lot heavier in the case of the Rubicon Unlimited.

Although you could sell your Jeep fairly easily.  For those of us who have years and years of mods, a trade-in isn't an option so finding that 'right' person can take a while.  Then there's the attachment we get.  I couldn't sell my Jeep even if I wanted to at this point.  Kinda sucks being locked into it but I'd lose out big if I sold it.

I drove one a few weeks ago, they drive pretty nice but seem way too big for trail use.  For street use they really need to offer a bigger motor so that you could tow a reasonable sized trailer (boat)

I would get one...but I could see myself dumping just as much money into it so it would be as capable as my TJ will be....but I have to admit, I would probably enjoy it more as my DD.
